Absolutely heartbroken.
Tonight I have had to make the hard decision to put my baking business BrattanyCakes on hold for whatever amount of time. If you’re a baker or someone who predominantly works with your hands, you know holding your hand in one position too long will cause your hand to tense up and cramp. And from piping frosting/chocolate and scooping cookies for so long and so often now, my dominant hand is in constant pain. Any time I have to squeeze a piping bag or use my cake scraper, suddenly my hand is hit with excruciating pain and soon it becomes unbearable to continue.
It was fun before the pandemic, for family and friends. But it became a business during the shutdown, and it helped me stay afloat when we were all unable to work. Everyone who interacted online, purchased, or even word of mouth has helped my family survive. I have never been more appreciative and loved.
I love baking. I loved watching my mom bake when I was growing up. More than anything, I love the positive response from people when they take that first bite.
But as of right now, I am packing up my baking supplies & calling it a day. I won’t say I’m calling it quits, but I definitely need to take a step back.
