May Is National Military Appreciation Month & Today Is Memorial Day

In honor of Military Appreciation Month. This is a nod to my father and his service in the U.S. Marines and The National Guard.

He died as a Veteran 10 years ago.

He earned the military plot that his remains now hopefully rest in as it was not an easy or relaxing life for him.

Still he worked into old age with ill health.

I still remember the service men at his funeral doing the symbolic send off for a fellow fallen soldier.

I still remember that meticulously folded flag given to my mother as a show of honor and respect.

His life and service to the U.S. Marines & The National Guard is what inspired me to write " Come What May"

Today's National Eat What You Want Day

I think that today shouldn't just be a homage to your favorite foods.

There is such a dire concern when it comes to cultural differences that even food seems to be a gray area.

It hasn't been that long since Earth Day was celebrated.

No matter how we feel about anything or anybody around us, it's important that we remember that we all share this Earth and the Earth is what provides all of our food.

So remember that eating what you want doesn't mean staying in your social class, demographic lane and/or geographic lane.

If you're conscious of various foods around you accept it and let others accept it.

As far as things being "authentic" all the time, how about showing some leniency. At least for today.

Because I'll tell you one thing, there is usually someone in every family around the world whose own people (old sage-like relative) tells them or makes them feel like they will never cook that dish right. No matter how edible it is. Or how strong their family line is.

🥹Oh how I long to be able to bake a pineapple upside down cake like my grandma . . . 🥹

Anyway just remember to keep all the politics to a minimum and just take today for what it is.

A day to enjoy food.

May Is National Military Appreciation Month &

Today's National Homefront Heros Day

It's also just a few hours before Mother's Day 💐

If you don't hail from a military family, then it's likely that you may not think about these group of people who are training or are abroad.

However, regardless of title or ranks these service members are family members as well. They have loved ones who depend on them on a more intimate level.

These loved ones are referred to as Home Front Heroes.

These are the civilians carrying a heavy burden and responsibility. No matter what happens they must be strong enough to live and nurture.

Nothing is promised in this world

The soldiers nor their loved ones know when or if they'll make it back.

The family and/or the soldiers may not even know if they will have a roof over their head. Especially if the household has typically relied on their service members presence.

Some are more fortunate than others as their Home Front Heros were able to step up and maintain stability.

For that we salute you today🫡. In the month recognizing military appreciation month.🪖🎖️

I've been doing silly food and/or tradition related songs to help pass on the Plated Traditions message.

I'm not a pro at it but I'm just having fun with it for now.

Especially since each song has a meaning and/or anecdote behind it.

In honor of Mother's Day being a few days away I thought I'd share how the song "Get Gone" came about.

I'm starting with this one because it's a simple everyday story that happens to anyone but it's still worthy to be acknowledged as a Plated Tradition.

Plated Traditions are just our food experiences, as is.

Although, I might have exaggerated the mood of the story when I made the song and video for the song🤔
