Hello again!

I posted some equipment for sale last week and two buyers I thought were serious have since backed out, so if I told anyone something was not available, it may be now! Prices are negotiable, especially if you'd like to get more than one thing.

I have the following items available, first-come, first-served; I am not able to hold anything without a deposit up front:

-True stainless steel 60" refrigerated display case, $2,500

I also have assorted paper products including coffee cups/lids/sleeves/stirrers/filters, packaging materials such as 16 and 32oz deli containers/lids, as well as a few large floor mats. Make me an offer and they're yours.

Note: these items are in a storage unit without power, so unfortunately there is no way to plug in the equipment for testing. I promise everything works, the only thing needing repair is the countertop lowboy fridge.

Yep. It's official. We're on the way out of our Church Hill location. We're still open for the time being, but, long story short, it's become unsustainable to stay in this particular building.

We have decided to rent a space at a commercial kitchen and focus on wholesale, farmers markets, shares, and decorated cake orders. We plan to offer delivery options as well so we can stay available to all our wonderful neighbors in the area.

Don't worry, we're not gone for good, just shifting things around. :) We will be posting updates and info on where to find our products here and on Instagram.

Sometime last week, someone destroyed the Little Free Library right outside the bakery. The padlock was cut and the whole thing was disassembled and partially broken. We assume it was the city because they were working on the road there the day it happened, it would likely have been in their way.

Since it appears whoever disassembled it is not coming back to repair it, does anyone have the tools/materials on hand to help? I can do it myself with borrowed tools, but if anyone already has the materials and experience it would go a lot faster.

So we are at a bit of a crossroads here at JJ's.

We have done our level best in Church Hill, but given the amount of production we're able to do and the service we're able to provide with a very small team in a very small space, the cost of operating has become unsustainable if we keep trying to do things the way we have been.

We've decided after the convergence of several events that the best way forward, if we're going to continue, is likely going to be closing this location and moving to a more affordable space where we can focus on decorated cakes and larger orders rather than the café-style setup we have now. We would appear at farmer's markets one or two days per week, and we would still be able to make any of our current products for bulk orders upon request without needing to rely on walk-in traffic.

Unfortunately, we are currently stuck between a rock and a hard place, because we need to stay until we get enough money to move, but we're unable to provide the kind of service that this area needs to thrive. To be honest, we had to change a lot of the things we wanted to focus on (mainly cake decorating, homemade mixes/pre-made doughs, breads and wholesale) so we could keep up with what the neighborhood wanted (to-go breakfast/pastry items and coffee, to fill the void left by the previous business). I never envisioned a café when dreaming of my own bakery for years, now it sometimes feels more like a chore than a passion.

So here we are asking for help from the community. Anything anyone can give will be helpful. This is a really hard thing for me to ask, I don't like admitting that I need help and this was my last resort after being denied countless loan requests (not in business long enough to have sufficient records, etc., and each inquiry has lowered my credit score).

We have NEW HOURS starting this week!

We have decided based on the culmination of a series of events that we are making some changes around here!

From now on, we will be closing at 2pm instead of 4, and you'll be seeing a little less in the way of walk-in daily breakfast items so we can start to pivot to more breads, cakes and bulk/wholesale orders (on that note - we are still able to take orders for any of our products even if they're not "on the menu" for that day, just ask! There may be a minimum order for some items).

We have some big plans moving forward including some take-and-bake options and pre-made doughs and baking mixes, and you may just see us at a farmers market or two very soon! Stay tuned here for all the updates! More to come this week!
