WEDNESDAY WORD: BREAD

Bread was a mainstay of life in the ancient world, and it is still a staple food in most cultures today. Making wholesome bread was a respected skill. Rich and poor alike depended on it. At one time in ancient Rome people even rioted for bread. At other low points in history people have waited in line for hours for bread rations.

It’s not surprising that bread came up often in Jesus’ life and teaching. Some of Jesus’ great miracles, in which he fed thousands, were about bread. And when it came to describing himself as sent from God with saving nourishment for his people, Jesus called himself the bread of life. In this way Jesus made clear that he was speaking of spiritual food, which is even more important than physical food and drink. Jesus spoke of himself as the bread that satisfies the deepest hunger of the human soul. Unlike bread rolls at my house, the food Jesus offers will never spoil or run out.

Jesus says “I am the bread of life” which means that ultimately, he can satisfy our deepest needs and longings. He can make us feel “full” and overflowing with blessing.
Jesus wants you to fully experience the spiritual nourishment and peace of soul that comes from feeding on him, the bread of life.

LETS PRAY: Gracious God, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world; Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Good evening everyone! Dave and I made a fast and furious trip to Sioux Falls, SD to attend the funeral of our dear friend Greg. 11 hours one way….I was ready to get out of the truck…lol. We also took my mom and Greg’s sister Linda with us! We had a lot of lively conversation!

We stopped in Nebraska to give Dave’s mom a hug, and we stopped in Des Moines to visit with my moms sister and brother in law, Jack and Norma! A big full day!

We use to live in Sioux Falls and I miss the sunsets so much! Prairie sunsets are pretty spectacular. We made it home safe and sound…time to chill.
