We are extremely over the top excited to start working with Shawarmageddon and Chapel Tavern. The Chapel recently purchased LOCAL & CERTIFIED ORGANIC ASPARAGUS from Lattin Farms as well as certified organic produce for pickling for their Bloody Marys. Shawarma is testing the waters with organic cabbage, lemons, and cucumbers this week. They are going to try the local cucumbers and cabbage when the local season kicks off near the end of June. If you are happy to have local and organic options to eat at in Reno then VOTE with your dollars and support these businesses and tell them you care about local and organic produce and products! Thank you for supporting the health of farmworkers, the health of the environment, the health of our local economy, and the health of eaters.

I just learned about this company through The Food Hub Management Course I am enrolled in through University of Vermont. Organically Grown Company ( a large food hub based in OR) has been working with B-Line to make deliveries in Portland. They calculated that they avoided driving 9,308 miles and saved on 28,000lb of CO2 emissions. I am not sure what the time range is for that but WOW!!!

Thank you to all of our farm workers that provide food for us to eat. Thank you to people that go out of their way to know their farmers and purchase food with transparency. Organic is super important in this regard, ensuring that workers are not exposed to toxic herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, and other chemicals. Thank you Cesar!

March 31st is Cesar Chavez Day. Cesar Chavez was a co-founder and leader of the United Farm Workers union. A farmworker himself, in the 1960s through the 1980s, Chavez organized with workers in the fields in California who struggled for fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect on the job. Chavez also collaborated with Filipino labor leaders like Larry Itliong and Philip Vera Cruz to found the United Farm Workers.

In honor of Chavez we are selling our fair trade organic bananas for $.99/lb as opposed to $1.69. Sale ends April 7th. We are the only retailer in Reno that ensures that everything we buy from Mexico is both FAIR TRADE and ORGANIC. Helping to ensure better wages, safer working conditions (lower exposure to workers and pesticides) and sustainable education for generations to come.

Bison (also called buffalo) meat is similar to beef and is cooked in much the same way. The taste is often indistinguishable from beef, although bison tends to have a fuller, richer (often referred to as sweeter) flavor. Cut bison meat tends to be darker red than beef. It does not taste "gamey"…
