Embracing the worms with a worm birthday cake 🎂🎂

Did you know today is a worm moon?? 🌙

Neither did we!!

But in honor of this surprise, we felt it was a great day to spill the beans and let everyone know about our new adventure...Raising Worms. 🌟 🌟

That's right...WORMS!!!

We'll have castings (💩), a liquid fertilizer, and bait just in time for planting gardens and flowers or doing some summer fishing.

More details on that soon, but if you're curious about the Worm Moon, the Old Farmers' Almanac, states that some refer to the full Moon in March as the "Worm Moon" because earthworms are thought to appear around this time as the ground thaws from winter.

And while much of Nebraska is seeing snow today, this morning we saw a driveway with worms scattered about. We'll take that as a sign of good luck 🍀

What a HEAVY day! Hauling hives full of honey...it's amazing how much honey weighs! Cleaning up the hives so they can go to other beekeepers...left some heavy feelings.

We didn't get as much done today as we had hoped (had to leave time for corned beef and cabbage 🍀) so there are still more days of working with the hives ahead.

🐝 Some stinging news...

We've been pretty quiet for a while as things were flipped upside down this past fall.

Our dad went to peek at the bees before we got home one evening. Although he was suited up, a bee got in his hood and he was stung by a bee 😬. He's been stung many times in the past but this time he had an EXTREME reaction and it nearly killed him.

He was home alone, but was able to make some calls before passing out. We're so thankful for family, neighbors and first responders who were able to dash to our house and get him the care he needed.

As much as we have enjoyed the bees (and of course the honey 🍯), it just isn't worth the risk of our dad potentially being exposed again. We're very sad to give it up, but we're stepping away from the bee business.

But fear not! Of course, we can't sit still, and we're channeling our energy into a new venture🚀.
