Feel Good Friday Post!! (At the very end of the day)
Some days in guardianship are incredibly hard. The crises, the late-night calls, the setbacks, the uncertainty, and the moments when progress feels impossible to see.
Four years ago, we began serving as guardian for a female veteran who was living in constant fight-or-flight mode. Along the way, we navigated mental health holds, medication adjustments, medication compliance struggles, missing person reports, and countless challenges. We worked alongside the VA, healthcare providers, her family and community resources to help create stability during some very difficult seasons.
There were times when success felt a long way off. But we never gave up on her.
Today, I had the opportunity to see her for the first time in nearly a year because she moved out of state. When she opened the door to her home she smiled and gave me a big hug.
What I saw today was nothing short of inspiring. For the past two years, she has maintained her independence, lived on her own, and continues to thrive. Life isn't perfect, and there are still hard days, but she is building a life that once seemed out of reach.
Moments like this remind us why we do what we do.
Guardianship isn't about making decisions for people—it's about standing beside them through the storms, believing in them when they can't believe in themselves, and celebrating the victories they work so hard to achieve.
Today was one of those victories.
To our veteran: We are incredibly proud of you. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. ❤️🇺🇸
