We said “goodbye” to our* table today.
I’d love to tell you about it.
Notice the * on slide one?
You see, it was never ours to keep, just to hold.
It belonged to a family my husband grew up with.
He has countless memories of middle school sleepovers and Saturday morning breakfasts sitting at this very table.
A family heirloom that needed safe-keeping when they unexpectedly had to downsize.
They couldn’t bear to sell it, but simply didn’t have the space.
As luck would have it, we were in need of a table and agreed to hold onto it until anyone in their family wanted it back.
That was nearly a decade ago.
When it arrived, it came with glitter and paper scraps in the cracks - remnants from years of school projects, arts and crafts.
It came with dents and scratches - evidence of many shared meals and family gatherings.
One look at it, and you knew it had infinite stories to tell.
Since then, it’s served as the gathering place for our own family traditions and welcomed visitors from near and far.
We watched our son grow-up, learning to eat, puzzle, color, read and write at this table.
And over the past couple of years, it’s become the table I built my business on.
I always knew this day would come but still I find myself grieving, as silly as that may sound.
It’s the end of an era - a bittersweet, but mostly sweet, goodbye.
Tonight, it’s back home with our friend.
It arrived with luster dust and sprinkles in the cracks - evidence of its chapter being held and loved by our little family.
