Don’t forget to visit your local small business friends like Sari-Sari Store!

We had to make it in before their sweet treats lineup ends on Friday. We all got the halo-halo but we also tried the ube Vietnamese coffee and it was delicious!

Skip the big box treats this week and try something new.

I’ve put it off as long as I can, having to make a decision about June but with a recital weekend in there and the knowledge that we have to replace all of the flooring on the main level of the house I decided to be conservative. We will have only one bake day in June and plan to resume pickups July 17th or 18th.
Meanwhile, the kids and I will be in Orlando while Eve does her Summer Intensive at Orlando Ballet School!
Wish her all the best while she learns from the best 6 days a week in the rigorous training program. See you on June 6th! Stock up on bread to freeze. We are keeping the menu simple for this bake so that I’m not stockpiling any ingredients that just won’t save.
I’ll miss seeing you all every week and can’t wait to design a great menu for when we get back!

Just in case you need this right now: pizza dough is crazy easy to make.

It costs about $2 to let your kids make their own pizzas. I got a small pizza stone and pizza peel off of Temu a while back and now it’s basically a staple. Something about kids making their own food makes them more invested.

Here’s the recipe:

2 cups warm water
2 T sugar
2 T active dry yeast
2 T olive oil
4-5 cups flour
2 t sea or pink salt

T = tablespoon
t = teaspoon

(Just in case you didn’t grow up reading grandma’s shorthand like I did.)

Preheat the oven to 500 while you make the dough. Make sure the pizza stone is in there warming if you’re using one.

- Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl and let it sit until it looks frothy (5-10 mins)
Gently stir in the olive oil and salt.
Add 4 cups of flour and stir with a wooden spoon until a dough ball forms. Grab your 5th cup of flour out of the flour bin and use about half to flour the surface. Put your dough ball on it and knead the dough in to a smooth ball, maybe 3 mins, it doesn’t need a lot. Use more of the reserved flour if your dough feels sticky.

Let the dough ball rest for 10-60 minutes.

Now you’re ready to shape and bake!

This recipe makes 4-5 small pizzas or two larger ones.

I shape my pizzas on parchment paper for easier transfer to and from the oven.

Bake for 7 mins if a small pizza or 11-14 mins for a big one.

This recipe is easy to scale up or store in the fridge for later.

If you used this be sure to come back and drop me a photo of your pizza!

Happy pizza creating!

We had to say goodbye to our our little lady Kimber yesterday. Her kidney disease caught up with her this year. The kids are so sad. This is the first time that they’ve lost a pet. I’ve had Kimber since before I met my husband (yeah she was really old). In fact, if it weren’t for her I probably wouldn’t have given him a chance. She took a shine to him long before I did and she was stodgy in her affections so it made me think he was an okay guy. Turns out he is a more than okay guy!

Well, anyway, gosh the hits just keep coming. And that tooth I broke… did I tell you I broke a tooth? I can’t even remember. The day they can fit me in for a new crown is on our next bake day at 7am 😳

So for the June schedule, if I only have one bake day should I make it on Saturday June 6th? That might make it easier for many of you.

Please comment if you prefer Friday, or Saturday!

I just want to say thank you to the customers that see me.

Being a mother itself is a position in which we give a lot and it’s often overlooked, and I’m used to that, it’s okay. I was a 911 dispatcher for 16 years, I’m used to high stress thankless jobs.

Doing this fun bakery thing now is such a change. I love my dough work. Feeding people has always been something I enjoy. If you’re ever hungry and in my house let me know, I will ALWAYS share food. But seriously, the friends and customers that see past the smile and the food to know what must be going on inside is so appreciated.

It reminds me of when I had a baby (Meeps) and then 2 weeks later I had a stroke. My MOPs friends heard about that and immediately started dropping food off on my porch. They didn’t ask what they could do, they didn’t say “let me know what you need” they just showed up, deposited their offering and didn’t stick around to see how it was received. It was a gift freely given out of their current capacity at the time. And MOPs is “mothers of preschoolers” so they probably didn’t have a lot of bandwidth to be sharing to be quite real.

But they did it anyway.

So at Christmas when some of you brought little gifts and today and at other times I truly want to thank you because I feel seen.

Today, thank you to Karina who didn’t have an order to pick up but did have one to drop off because she gets it. These struggle seasons are just that and sometimes a little token of visibility is a lifeline to a friend.

We will praise Him in this storm. ✝️

With gratitude,

Sari
