I’m not the only baker in the family, guys. Last week I shared with you my husband baking on our smoker. 🤯🤤
Today, my niece got to spend the day practicing her cookie decorating skills. She has been into baking for a couple years now and regularly climbs up in the cupboard at home and throws together a cake or brownie mix. She makes Christmas cookies with me and my other nieces every year and is always listening closely, concentrating so hard, and really does give it her very best. She dreams of having her own bakery with employees by the time she’s 17 and already has an entire toolbox of baking supplies of her own at home and knows how to use every thing in there.
She’s not entirely a novice, she’s been watching me quite literally for her entire life, but she is only 9 and has had limited opportunities so far to actually participate. She has been asking for today for months. She gets a whole day (not just a couple hours) by herself (no sister) to actually decorate 2 dozen cookies to take on their family trip to Arkansas later this week. Her mom said you would have thought it was Christmas morning this morning.😂
She mixed her own colors. She thinned out her own frosting. She had never outlined a cookie before. She had never used texture on a cookie before. She has never used an airbrush machine. She has never used a projector for lettering. And she’s never used more than one color on a cookie (in a coordinated and purposeful way, at least). This is her FIRST attempt at most of the techniques you see pictured in the finished product picture. And she was so competent and comfortable after I demonstrated something, once, or explained something, once, that I got up at one point and did the dishes and built my crockpot dinner.
This girl is going places. She will have no problem getting clientele if she ever decides to turn baking into more than a just fun hobby. Peep her own signature cookie, in collaboration with Sweet! of course, because every artist should always sign their work and this definitely classifies as art in my book.
