I’m tapestry weaving a winter scene, the very first weave that I’m doing on my own after just starting tapestry weaving a few months ago. I feel that I’ve learned so much by finding resources online, especially Liz Whiteside Studio - tapestry artist / weaver. I’m using DMC rather than wool and have more than 15 different threads spread out, including a DMC satin floss and a Rainbow Gallery🌈 silk lame. Although I love the feel of the wool and working with it, I would struggle with what colors to buy, let alone store them. Lots of learning to do when delving into a new area of art!!

Well, I just came to a grinding halt, but I hope it’s temporary. Working on the tree landscape in Liz Whiteside Studio - tapestry artist / weaver Artful Threads and I’m out of the DMC green I was using for most of the grass, for some reason I thought I had plenty. So I looked at Michael’s, a handy resource, and that green is unavailable in store or for pickup or for delivery. I guess I’ll be using some other greens and making a mixture of the limited selection that I have on hand. When I post another image we will see how well the rest of my supply was able to finish the job. Note to self: make sure you have plenty of the threads you want to use.

Weaving sideways, first time weaving this way! I enjoyed the eccentric weaving of the tree, the curve was gentle and befitting the image. This is part of Liz Whiteside Studio - tapestry artist / weaver Artful Threads, where I’m learning new skills, what needs improvement, and working at adapting the lessons.

Finished and off the Mirrix Looms Chloe loom,the first landscape in Liz Whiteside Studio - tapestry artist / weaver Artful Treads course. I keep learning - be sure to really pack down often or some things will look squished, such as the window on the right portion of the house. I’m using DMC floss and added Rainbow Gallery🌈 silk lame for the door. Weaving is a slow process, but I’m really enjoying it and learning!

Yesterday was National Coffee Day and I fully intended to post this timely but missed it. Now the Coffee Day lingers just like an enjoyable cup of coffee. I shared that experience yesterday with Carol Scavotto-Artist and now with you. I created this image using the Brushes app for the phone that was popularized by David Hockney. It was my first experience with layers.

I’m working on the Little House in Liz Whiteside Studio - tapestry artist / weaver Artful Threads on my Mirrix Looms Chloe and I noticed a big difference in not only color but presentation of texture, depending on lighting. I had noticed this when weaving the foreground and ended up redoing much of the weaving while I moved lights and added lights. It’s somewhat frustrating since I would really like to be pleased with the look regardless of lighting. I’m wondering if using DMC with a slight sheen makes more of a difference than would a wool thread? The door is Rainbow Gallery🌈 SL40 and does show a little sparkle in real life but not so much here.

I relocated from summer home to winter home and didn’t think about how different the lighting would be. In working on this landscape with Liz Whiteside Studio - tapestry artist / weaver Artful Threads, I started with obvious lighting, then added some, but when I moved my Mirrix Looms to other light, the colors really changed. I found another lamp to highlight my work area, but by then I had done too much weaving to take out and redo.
It was a lesson in color and your lighting, it’s best to work with better lighting. Since I’m using DMC there’s a level of shine which might change more than wool threads would. The shine made some color changes significant in different light.

This moonscape is the fifth lesson in Liz Whiteside Studio - tapestry artist / weaver Artful Threads tapestry weaving course. The second image is the backside with the weft ends still waiting to be tucked in. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the lessons, making shapes, learning color blending, handling the yarn. For these lessons I’ve used DMC. It’s more firm than a tapestry thread, it has less give and forgiveness but I like the shine and the effect. For the moon in this scene I used Rainbow Gallery🌈 Winter combined with 2 single strands of Blanc. Since the DMC is strandable I plan to incorporate other decorative threads that can be stranded for different effects. I’m enjoying my journey into the world of tapestry weaving!

Finished but still on the Mirrix Looms, by now it’s off and I still have to trim the warp and bury those many many wefts. I did this in the Liz Whiteside Studio - tapestry artist / weaver Artful Threads course. I’m learning so much and constantly seeing what needs improvement, which is all that learning by doing is about. Liz is very helpful and patient! Since I have a busload of water scene photos to work from, maybe I’ll weave one after I finish the course. My journey into exploring new artistic avenues continues!

It’s off the loom, but not finished as the second photo shows. This is lesson #3 in the Liz Whiteside Studio - tapestry artist / weaver Artful Threads that I started about a week ago. I’m learning so much, including what I need to learn to do better. I’m using DMC rather than wool threads and I do like the look, there’s a little sheen. Since I have a supply of various sparkly threads for , I’m planning to weave some in after I bury the weft ends in the back. On a future project I may include some sparkly threads in with what I’m using for weft. Thank you, Liz, for investigating using DMC and finding that it works using 8 strands for an 8 DPI.
