Judith & Jane’s Bakehouse

Judith & Jane’s Bakehouse Chris & Lori's Bakehouse began as a bakery and cafe serving breakfast and lunch in DeForest in 1995.

After over a year of struggling through the early mornings and late nights that a young business demands, we decided that wholesaling our products to grocery stores was the way to go. As the focus of the business shifted to wholesaling, we decided to also try our hand at the Dane County Farmers' Market on the square in 1996. Every Saturday morning we brought a small amount of product, a little car

d table, and our then 6-year-old daughter to the market. Four years later, another daughter was born on a Saturday morning (one of the few markets we've missed), and she started coming with us to the market the following Saturday. Over the past two decades, our farmers' market stand has grown to offer many different types of scones - and of course, cow and flower-shaped sugar cookies.

2024 will officially be our 28th and final year on the Square! We are ready to step away from the hustle and bustle and take it easier. In 2025 we do plan to vend at the westside community market in Madison.

It’s time to announce our August menu!! These delicious flavors will be at the market through the end of August 💚🩷

Additionally, this Saturday we will have a Pay What You Can in our parking lot from 3pm-4pm.

We can’t wait to share this menu with you all. After a few weeks of irregular markets, the forecast is predicting a beautiful sunny Saturday, and we couldn’t be more excited! ☀️

Hey all. The Dane County Farmers' Market will be shut down tomorrow morning at 10AM due to protests around the capitol in light of the murder of Corey Ruiz. We will be at the Westside Community Market from 7-12:30 like normal so please come to the square early or come to the westside instead.

With that being said, we implore you to attend the protests downtown. The fight for Black liberation is of the utmost importance. Protests and other forms of public disruption are the best way to make an impact. Make people understand the gravity of situations like this. Make them feel something. Whether it be emotionally, physically, or financially. Show up and tell the people in charge that this is absolutely unacceptable and something NEEDS to be done. Black people should not be dying at the hands of police, should not be murdered by police. No matter what the situation looks like.

We baked fairly large for the markets tomorrow, so depending on how sales go at the market, we might have cause to do a pay what you can. We might have to play that one by ear and we will let you all know on here when we know.

We will see you in the morning. Please do not let the police brutality of Black people become normal to you. This is anything but what normal should look like. We all deserve better than this. Justice for Corey Ruiz.

During our vacation last week, we spent 4 days in NYC to celebrate! 🌟 It was nice to have a break during the busy market season, but we are excited to be back at the bakehouse and back at the markets!

We will be on the Square from 6:15-1:45 and at the Westside from 7-12:30 🌸 The air quality seems to be improving, so come and enjoy a beautiful sunny July morning with us and stock up on these delicious July flavors! 💚
