Summer special at the market today: freshly stonemilled Durum-Iraq organic whole wheat, with Appalachian corn polenta (from Rancho Llano Seco), basil, and preserved Rangpur limes.

What’s a Rangpur lime? It’s a lemon x mandarin hybrid, originating in India. The juice is sour, and it’s best known for the delicious marmalade it makes ‘even better than that made with Seville oranges’ -- we think so too, and will have some on hand to try.

All cleaned up and ready to go! Back at the PV market this Thursday, after an inspiring trip to the wheat-growing center of France.

We’ll be at the market every other week for the next few months. So for August that’s the 3rd, 17th and 31st.

Due to a last minute trip out of town, we will not be at the market tomorrow. Instead, we’re studying the microbiology of beignets at ASM in New Orleans :)

SUMMER SCHEDULE: In true French style, L’Atelier du Pain will be taking a break this summer and away from the end of June – end of July (back early August). Send me a message to pre-order bread and stock up your freezers before we say goodbye!

California Seaweed Sourdough Rolls: made with whole grain Patwin wheat, kombu “Queen of the Kelps”, and rolled in sea palm and sesame seeds. The seaweeds used in this bread are harvested from the coastal rocks of Mendocino by Larry Knowles and his team at Rising Tide Sea Vegetables, who’ve been in business since 1981. Two specials at the market tomorrow! Celebrating St Patrick’s Day early since we will not be at the market next week (March 16):

1. Irish Soda Bread – made from 100% stoneground White Sonora wheat, grown organically by Coke Farm in San Juan Bautista, CA. With California raisins (making it technically a “Spotted Dog”), kefir-cultured buttermilk, and our very own Portola Valley honey.

2. Green Tea & Citrus Sourdough Rolls – made with stoneground organic Patwin wheat (grown by Fritz Durst in Capay, CA), matcha green tea, and candied orange and Rangpur lime peels.
