Scala Ciro Bianco 2025! This is a beautiful, deep, rich Greco from the toe of the Italian boot. This is peak Italian summer wine!

Available at Maine & Vine, Sissle and Daughters, Vessel and Vine, Board, Blue Hill Wine Shop, Aragosta, and First Fig

Scala's bianco is made from Greco grapes, but a different version from the Greco di Tufo that grows up in Campania. The grapes are hand harvested, destemmed, softly pressed, and then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks to maintain the aromatics of the Greco. This vintage seems just a touch riper than last year. The flavors are similar but maybe a bit more fruit and tasty minerality.

Galognano Chianti Colli Senesi 2024! Super precise, pretty, classic Chianti from Erika Ciapelli

This is a blend of 85% Sangiovese, 5% Colorino, 5% Canaiolo, 5% Ciliegiolo, from vines aged about 50 years, planted at 280 meters altitude.  After destemming and soft pressing, the juice begins fermentation on the skins with natural yeasts. Initial fermentation on the skins lasts for about 15 days: how ever long the fermentation takes. Erika racks the fermenting juice off and after some decanting, the wine remains in concrete tanks for 5 months, until bottling. All of the winemaking and aging takes place in concrete tanks.

Clos de la Roilette Fleurie 2024! Rich ripe, deep and serious but also vibrant: this is Gamay at it's best!

Available at Maine and Vine, Bow St Wells, Riverside Butcher, Vessel ans Vine, Bow St Beverage, and the Wine Seller

I was looking around the warehouse the other day and realized we still have a bit of the 2024 Clos de la Roilette. It’s the way of things: we get an exciting allocated wine in and it sells super quick for a few weeks but then everyone (ourselves included) are on to the next allocated exciting wine.  The 2024 vintage in Beaujolais was really great and these wines are drinking beautifully right now! We’re ordering our allocation for the 2025s, but those are still a month and a half at least away.  The tasting notes below are freshly written for how they’re drinking now.

Sassara 'Esotico' Rose 2025

Available at 44 North, Bowdoinham Country Store, Maine and Vine, Sissle and Daughters, The Norumbega, Island Wine and Spirits, Friends and Family, and the Wine Seller

It’s back! And now in the 2025 vintage! This dark rose/pale red is a coferment of red and white grapes.  It's 30% red grapes (Corvina, Rossanella, Rondinella, Molinara) and 70% white grapes (Fernanda, Moscato, Trebbianello, Trebbiano, Garganega, Tocai), all from old vines that are co-planted. Hand harvested and spontaneously co-fermented with 10 days of skin maceration and without temperature control. Aged in stainless steel. No filtering or fining and no added sulfur.

aroma: orange candy, kumquat, orange blossom, a bright mango aroma. This smells beautiful! Fresh and vibrant, the aroma is pretty powerful, but not heavy or cloying.

Taste: fresh energetic and joyful tasting; there's bright vibrant acidity and fresh clementine orange fruit. The mid palate has a delicious satisfying savory tasty salty mineral structure that hits my taste buds and gets my palate salivating! There's white wild flowers, hibiscus and rooibos tea, then the finish gets touch zippy and zesty with a subtle hint of tannin and citrus pith and then again a hint of white tea.

Renardat Fache Bugey Cerdon Methode Ancestrale Rose

Renardat Fache is a small but famous old family winery in the tiny region of Bugey, halfway between Geneva and Lyons. Bugey is on the way to the Jura, and it’s quite mountainous, but at a lower elevation. The whole AOC is just 170 hectares! Renardat Fache is a 7th generation winery run by Alain Renardat… and people have been telling me about this wine for years!  They’re a legendary old school producer of the Louis Dressner portfolio, but it wasn’t available. The grapes are picked by hand, pressed and fermented in cold vats until the alcohol reaches about six degrees of alcohol. After a light filtration that leaves most of the active yeast in the unfinished wine, it is bottled and continues its fermentation in the bottle, reaching about 7.5 or 8 degrees of alcohol and retaining a fair quantity of its original sugar. It is more vinous (with grapey primary aromas) than most Champagne, since there is neither dosage nor addition of yeast before the second fermentation. The opportunity popped up this spring to purchase a partial pallet from the winery so I jumped at it. And wow, it’s delicious! Unfortunately They were hit by a late frost in 2024 so there won’t be any wine next year, this is our only shot at it.

2025 Caneva da Nani is here! I love this wine. I love how it tastes and I love what it represents. It’s so thirst quenching and fun plus the price is still really great for what you get. It’s a wine made by a family going against the market consolidation and commercialization that dominates Prosecco.  And did I mention how super delicious and thirst quenching this is?  It is really absolutely fantastic!

Available at Nibblesford, Now You're Cooking, Black Birch, Vinolio, Bow St, Friends and Family, and Brooklin General Store
