Today’s featured vintage ornament is the 1940-50’s Shiny Brite Tornado Lantern made of Mercury Glass. This is the original cap stamped Shiny Brite Made in U.S.A.

We only found a few of these online with the same exact shape and coloring. Comparable items with similar paint fade are selling for $25 to $30.

Next up is an early 1940’s Railroad Lantern by Premier Glass Works. It stands about 3” high, is made of Mercury glass and includes its original cap.

This ornament has some paint fade but it’s in good shape for an item that is over 80 years old. We placed a value of $30 on it. Shipping is available.

Premier Glass Works was only in business from 1940 to 1955 and was then bought out by Shiny Brite making this ornament rare.

How do we know it’s Premier and not a later work by Shiny Brite? The cap. The patina on the cap and the straight bottom edge is key to its identification. Shiny Brite used a crimped cap that was always stamped with its brand in the 1940’s and 50’s. This cap has no brand and no crimping.
