We are so sorry to announce the passing of Laila Bishara, owner Southern Maid Donuts Plano
It’s hard to put into words how much my mother meant to me, but I want to try. As an immigrant from Cairo, Egypt, she came to this incredible country, started a small donut shop in Plano, and devoted her life to her family. For 50 years, she and my father worked 7 days a week running their shop and serving their customers. I have such a profound respect for her work ethic and her dedication to providing for us. She put all 3 of her children through private, Catholic schools and then through SMU, and she did it by making one donut at a time. Her job was anything but glamorous, but you’d never know. My mother was always the image of perfection, from her hair to her nails. Her style was flawless, and her elegance turned heads. But above all else, my mother was kind and generous. She looked forward to doing things for others, and she received so much joy from giving. My childhood was filled with laughter, so many inside jokes, the best family dinners, Disney vacations, and lots of hugs and kisses. I know how tired my mother was every single day….donut shop hours are rough….but she was always present for her kids, always. She was just the best, and I wish I could have more of her. I wish her grandkids had more time with her too. We had so much to look forward to. We will hold all of our wonderful memories close to our hearts, and we know one day we will be laughing together and sharing hugs again. Mom, I am thankful you are no longer suffering. We miss you so much.
Heaven gained the most beautiful soul. ❤️
