🍂 October Pick-Up Schedule 🍂

Now that the summer farmers market season has wrapped up, I don’t have any markets on the horizon for the next little while. I’m honestly looking forward to getting back into a little more normalcy with the bakery this fall and winter!

For the month of October, I’ll be offering three pick-up options, and I’m excited to also offer delivery on orders of $20 or more! 🏡🥖

Thank you so much for your patience and continued support through a summer that looked a little different than my normal bakery routine. Your support has meant more than you know, and I’m so grateful for every order, share, and kind word. ❤️

I’m excited to settle back into a rhythm this fall, bake some of your favorites, and have a little more consistency in the weeks ahead.

And… 👀 I’m already working on my Thanksgiving menu, so stay tuned! You definitely won’t want to miss what’s coming. 🦃🍪🥖

A Walk of Love, Hope & Remembrance

This October, we’re walking 19 miles in 31 days to honor the 19 years my mom lived and fought with stage 4 breast cancer.

But these miles aren’t just for her. They’re for all of us whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.

👟 Walk for someone you love.
👟 Walk for someone fighting.
👟 Walk for someone we’ve lost.
👟 Walk for yourself.

Choose your own pace. Walk with your family, your friends, your dog, on a treadmill, around your neighborhood—or wherever you are.

And most importantly, choose who you’re walking for. 💗

Throughout October, we’ll be sharing the stories and memories behind the miles and creating a community of people walking together, even when we’re miles apart.

There is no registration fee and no fundraising requirement. Just sign up, walk your 19 miles, and help us raise awareness and remind those fighting that they don’t have to walk this journey alone.

We’re so excited to start something special for the teachers at Canaan—because who doesn’t love our teachers?! ❤️

Here’s how it works:

👩‍🏫 When you stop by our farmers market booth or purchase an item from us, you can grab a Teacher Appreciation form.

✏️ Have your child fill it out for a teacher who has made a difference in their life. And we’d LOVE for them to draw a picture or add a little something special on the back!

🎉 At the end of every month, we’ll draw one winner!

Cancer Car Chat: Episode 4 – When You Hear “You Have Cancer”

There are some words that divide your life into a before and an after.

“You have cancer.”

When you hear those words, time stops. At least it did for me.

Your mind starts racing. What does this mean? What’s next? What about my family? What about my future?

My biggest advice for those first days is to FIND YOUR PEOPLE.

Find the friends and family who will listen to you, cry with you, read with you, encourage you, and simply be there.

You don’t need 50 people. You need a few good people you can count on.

Let them help you. Let someone bring you a meal. Let someone sit with you. Let someone go to an appointment with you.

You don’t have to be strong every minute.

I also highly recommend journaling. Write down your symptoms, your emotions, your questions, and what happened that day.

Because when you’re in the middle of it, time can feel like it’s barely moving. But when you look back at what you wrote days, weeks, or months ago, you can see just how far you’ve come.

And remember: EVERYONE’S CANCER JOURNEY IS DIFFERENT.

I found out at the end of April, and I’m choosing to talk about my experience because sharing my story has become part of my healing journey.

But not everyone is ready to share.

Some people need to talk. Some need to process quietly. Some aren’t ready yet.

And that’s okay.

There is no right way to respond to a cancer diagnosis.

Give yourself permission to feel whatever you’re feeling and take it one day at a time.

Cancer Car Chat: Episode 3 – What Is a Stereotactic Breast Biopsy?

After my mammogram and additional imaging, the next step was a stereotactic breast biopsy.

When it was time to schedule, I was offered a few different locations. The breast center where I usually went in Dublin had a backorder on the biopsy needles, which meant I’d have to wait longer for my procedure.

I didn’t want to wait.

So I chose to have my biopsy done at Grant.

One difference between the two locations was the biopsy table. At Grant, I was able to sit upright for the procedure. The machine in Dublin would have required me to lie face down (prone). My nurse navigator shared that many patients find the upright position to be a little more comfortable, and I was grateful that was an option.

So what is a stereotactic breast biopsy?

It’s a procedure that’s used when an area of concern shows up on a mammogram but can’t easily be felt. Using mammogram images, the radiologist precisely guides a biopsy needle to the area and removes a few tiny tissue samples to send to pathology.

The procedure itself was much easier than I expected.

They numbed the area with local anesthetic, so I mostly felt pressure rather than pain. The team talked me through every step, and before I knew it, it was over.

Recovery was surprisingly easy.

I had some bruising and soreness at the biopsy site, but Tylenol, ice, and a supportive, compressive bra were all I needed. Within a few days, I was feeling pretty normal again.

If you’re facing a stereotactic breast biopsy, I hope this eases some of your anxiety. The waiting for results was much harder than the biopsy itself.
