This past week my husband and I traveled to Orlando so I could attend CookieCon, the largest cookie decorators’ convention and show in the world. It featured workshops, live demonstrations, a huge vendor hall, and a sugar show competition for attendees of varying skill levels. Honestly, this week was both exciting and humbling for me. I learned so much and was able to see the work of many, many amazing cookie artists. The piece I created for the sugar show’s black and white category is pictured below. Although I didn’t win any awards or prizes for my submission, I came away from this experience feeling accomplished. This was my first attempt at making three-dimensional cookie art, and it’s comprised of three cookies, royal icing (black, grays, and white), and a printed image (edible ink). Most importantly, it’s a tribute to my father-in-law who passed away on March 18, 2026. The beauty of this piece, to me, is found in his smile.
