*Adventures on the farm*
Planting, weeding, seeding, harvesting, pollinating and building trellis structures…it has been a busy couple of weeks here on the farm!
We are finishing up getting our strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries in; berry season is going to be awesome this year!! Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash, and pumpkins are in and we are utilizing some really cool structures for support this year including cattle panels, cement mesh, and straw bales. Both of our salad bars, Laverne and Shirley, are planted and we will continue succession planting them this summer to keep the greens fresh and full. We are still finishing up our flower rows but those will be done in about a week.
Yesterday, while I was busy planting in the field, my youngest farm hand informed me he had found a squirrel but, not to worry, it was ‘sleeping’. Sure enough, when I got to him, he was proudly holding a ‘sleeping’ chipmunk. He said we needed to get him tucked into a nest to sleep and I agreed. I told him I would take care of it while he went to wash his hands. I did my best not to overreact because he was actually quite proud of himself and his exciting find. I decided it was best to let him ‘drive’ the skid loader for a while so he could take a break from critter hunting and stay out of trouble. 😉
