Did you know there's around 22,000 home processors in New York State?
There's been a recent boom in this industry with around 1,000 new applications submitted each month to the Department of Agriculture.
Soooo.... what does it mean to be a home processor?
Well, it's an exemption to the 20C certification/application process through the Department of Agriculture.
It requires proof of potable water, it only allows for shelf stable items to be made and sold within New York State.
It has specific product labeling requirements and you cannot sell until approval is received. There is no inspection required and is done only if complaints have been received.
We are not allowed to use commercial equipment.
I encourage everyone to be savvy consumers and any registered home processor will gladly provide proof of their exemption and liability insurance.

If you plan to make foods such as certain baked goods, jellies, or snack mixes, you may qualify for a Home Processor Exemption. This will allow you to prepare food in your home kitchen for wholesale or retail sale at agricultural farm venues. You will be exempt from Article 20-C licensing.
