Finally! It's been some time since I've been able to work on anything significant! Funny how life keeps us pretty busy.

My wife requested a series of new cutting boards, so this is the first of the batch. She particularly wanted a scalloped edge for one of the boards. I'd never considered doing edges like this on a board before but I must say it adds a fun level of uniqueness to the boards. Something I'll incorporate into more of my boards. At the end of the day, she loves it and that's what it's all about.

This specific board is a 12" x 18" x 1.5" all cherry, edge grain cutting board.

Always nice when you clean up a board and the glue lines are perfect and the board blends beautifully. This walnut edge grain cutting board will end up as a wedding gift. I'll finish the inlay over the weekend. Looking forward to sharing the end result!

Alright...finally finished up the coffee table. Installed the bottom...top? Shelf? Not sure what to call that piece 🤔

Anywho...I mixed up the cherry stripes this time to offset the top. The wifey is happy so in the end that's all that matters 😂

Well, it's been a while...again 😄 Not 100% done, just need to add the little bottom table. However Annie said one of my jobs was to get at least the top done before all of our family came to visit. At least I got that part done!

At first it was going to be a solid walnut table, but I wanted to add a little accent to it, hence the cherry strips. Final dimensions are 48" x 24" x 1" and it fits nicely in the living room. We're gunna see how this one holds up to the abuse that small children put furniture through. Maxwell is already racing his cars across the top!

Turns out, my Facebook and Instagram accounts were disconnected somehow. So there were a few posts that started in Instagram but never made it over to Facebook. Oh well. Here was one from a few weeks ago...

Ok...so I'm only a month and half behind schedule...BUT...I think it was worth it in the end. I finally completed my wife's Valentines Day gift! She had requested a live edge bookcase to replace the cheap bookcase we had in our Living Room.

Made from solid Black Walnut, the only screws in this bookcase are 2 small L brackets in the back to help prevent it from wobbling side to side. The rest is all traditional wooden joinery.

Additionally, after sawing the live edge, some of the pieces had some cracks running along the board. So I used a number of bowties to help reinforce the boards and prevent further splitting.

I also love the way my wife added the plants to the bookcase. I feel like it makes the bookcase "come alive" in a way. I need to invest in some good photography cause these pictures don't do the bookcase justice.

My only issue now is she wants to replace our entertainment center with something that matches the bookcase! Maybe by next Christmas I'll have it done 🤣

That's a whole lotta bowties! At my lovely wife's bequest, I have recently embarked on a journey to make her a modernish + live edge bookcase for the living room. To make it even more challenging, I'm trying to get it done in time for Valentines Day...no pressure right? (to be fair, she's not requiring it for v-day, but I have a free lunch on the line if I don't get it done in time!)

However after milling up the live edge, I noticed there were a decent amount of splits in the wood to be used for the sides of the bookcase and that they needed some reinforcement. Hence the inlayed bowties...and a lot of them! I have done bowties by hand in the past, and love the challenge, but it would have taken me forever to do 8 of them. Que the Onefinity cnc as it made short work and perfect bowties.

Hopefully I'll have this done in the next 10 days to show off the finished product (and get my free lunch 🤣)

Christmas came early for Granny Smith. My mom is, in a word, an American Patriot through and through. Every house we've lived in has a room dubbed as the "Freedom Room" where the room's theme is dedicated to the founding of America, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln (her favorite presidents).

Today we presented to her Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, lasered into a live edge cherry slab. She was moved to the verge of tears. I have to say I love how this turned out. It'll fit nicely into her Freedom Room.

In between my real job, kids basketball practices, kids musical concents, church and community events, and keeping up with the house work there's work in the shop to be done. Oh...and sharing it on social media 🤣

Completed a few co-worker gifts last night. Personalized coasters. In addition I have one more set of coasters and a cheese board currently in the works. Then I can take a breather for a few weeks to celebrate Christmas. I am looking forward to sharing some of the presents made this year that I can't quiet yet reveal!

Looks like it's been a hot minute since I've shared anything. Such is life when you're busy with kids sports, work, and enjoying family time.

That said, I was able to break out my new bandsaw and resaw some really nice black walnut. Even had a helper in training out there with me! Next project on the to-do list is a live edge bookcase for the family room. More to come in the coming weeks!
