~Kanela and Spice~ Kanela and Spice What the heck is Kanela?!! Why Kanela? I wanted to give my little business a special name that will relate to my roots and who I am.

CANELA, the Spanish word for Cinnamon, but in my attempt to spice things up a little; I decided to switch it to KANELA. Oddly, every time I have a new baking project, sugar does not come into my mind; cinnamon does. As a typical Latin American/South American/Ecuadorean (mona) girl I grew up with a variety of aromas in the kitchen that my grandma would always use. Out of all the spices, cinnamon wa

s always my favorite. Any signs of the sweet aroma of Kanela, meant that something yummy was about to be created in the kitchen, such as arroz con leche, morocho, natilla, bonuelos, chucula, and of course the famous CANELAZO, just to name a few. In other words, I relate KANELA to baking, cooking, my childhood, my grandmother, my family, the color of my skin, my taste, my likes, my country, my home...

So next time that you are in need of a cake, cupcakes, or any other sort of sweet treats, do what I do: think about Kanela and give me a ring! (or text or email, whatever) and I will make sure to translate your ideas into tasteful and beautiful creations.

The best thing about reading the posts on my Kanela n Spice page is the clear mix of English, Espanol, accents, nationalities, groups, genders, tastes, believes, etc, etc. Isn't it amazing how a "YUM" or a "WOW" doesn't need any translation? We all know what it means. Cheers to Diversity! and to "Yumminess" =)
