New Restaurant to Join Pensacola Eats

Cypress - a casual-elegant eatery focusing on coastal and Southern inspired new American fare - is being developed by a team from New Orleans, including one Pensacola native.

McKenzie Lovelace, born and raised in Pensacola, will be joined by her husband Luca DiSomma, a seasoned restauranteur, along with award-winning Executive Chef Coleman Jernigan and his wife and front of house manager, Courtney Stagg. “We are excited to bring the talents of Chef Jernigan to Pensacola and join the many outstanding locally-owned and operated restaurants in town. There has been a great food movement and revitalization of dining in Pensacola in the last 10 years that is continuing to grow and change the city.” McKenzie says.

Chef Jernigan and DiSomma were most recently with McGregor Cafe in Ft Myers, Florida where they turned a failing dinner program into one of the top 5 ranked restaurants in the city. "I'm looking forward to starting and creating a restaurant with the talents and skills I have learned over my almost 20 years of experience. Cypress will incorporate a variety of cuisines and techniques under one roof - creating a true blend of food cultures focusing on locally sourced ingredients and partners,” says Jernigan. Jernigan’s kitchen work will be complimented by his wife and restaurant partner, Courtney Stagg, who has directed a variety of beverage and service programs throughout New Orleans and SW Florida.

The building at 1124 W Garden Street, which once housed Premier Bakery, will undergo renovations with design work from McAlpin Interiors. Lovelace also hopes to add a liquor license to the building’s current wine and beer service. There will be dog-friendly outdoor seating along with inside bar and table dining service for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Sunday with added hours for Saturday and Sunday brunch. The target opening is February 15th, 2019.
