🍫 Ultimate Gooey Southern Chocolate Cobbler 🍫
INGREDIENTS
For the Cobbler Base:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup whole milk
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Topping & Sauce:
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups boiling water
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8x8 or 9x9-inch baking dish.
Mix the Base: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 cup granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
Add Wet Ingredients: Stir the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract into the dry mixture until a smooth batter forms. Spread the batter evenly into your prepared baking dish.
Create the Topping: In a separate small bowl, mix together the 1 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1/4 cup cocoa powder. Sprinkle this dry sugar-cocoa mixture evenly over the top of the batter in the baking dish. Do NOT stir.
The Magic Step: Carefully and gently pour the 1 1/2 cups of boiling water over the entire top of the sprinkled dry mixture. Do NOT stir. (This creates the magical gooey fudge sauce at the bottom as it bakes!)
Bake: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. The top should look like a baked brownie with a slightly crackly crust, while underneath will remain molten and bubbly.
Serve: Remove from the oven and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to allow the fudge sauce to thicken slightly. Serve warm, preferably with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream!
