Sue Powell, 89, passed away peacefully at Heritage Home in Pinedale, WY on November 20, 2025. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. Inurnment will be held in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery at a later date. She was born on June 21, 1936, to Lee & Edyth Hutsell, being named Margaret Sue Hutsell, and raised in Maryville, TN. She had 3 older brothers named Charles, Bill, and Jim; and 1 older sister named Aileen. After graduating high school, she moved to Olathe, KS to live with her sister Aileen and brother-in-law Shorty. There she met and married Shorty's navy friend Don Powell on August 19, 1955. She gave birth to a son Rick Powell. Then Don was diagnosed with Larynx Cancer. After 5 years of Don being cancer free, she gave birth to daughter, Teresa. After living in Parsons for approximately 60 years, she moved to Pinedale, WY in 2023 where her daughter lives. Sue was a wonderful and loving mother who faithfully supported her children by always being their biggest fan and being there in whatever way she could, or they needed, all their life.
Her jobs included being a wife and mother, a nurse aide at the Labette County Hospital, and a clerk at the Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons, Kansas. That company was bought by Day & Zimmerman where she worked until retiring. After retirement, her and Don were freer to camp and go on trips in their RV to see their daughter Teresa in Wyoming and son Rick in Washington state.
She had many interests and talents. She loved sports. In her younger adult years, she was on an adult softball team until she injured her knee and had to get surgery. She was on a bowling league for several years and did well enough to travel for competitions. Her daughter Teresa remembers being a bowling alley brat. She was even great at horseshoes. The rest of her sports loving life she was at every game her son Rick, then later, her grandson Tyler played. She loved to watch her Tennessee Volunteers. Football, baseball, and basketball. Also she was a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. She even enjoyed Nascar. She was also very talented. She was very accomplished in crocheting, which turned into knitting which she loved. She could knit anything. It was amazing. Then she started quilting. The same skill and talent was there as well. She made beautiful quilts. The old way, stitching by hand.
Sue was preceded in death by her mother Edyth Hutsell, her 4 siblings, grandson Dylan Cackler, and her husband Don Powell. She is survived by her son Rick and wife Tina, along with grandchildren Jeriah, Tyler, Angie, and Travis; her daughter Teresa and husband Mike and their children Dallas and Hannah.

Raymon L. Nordhagen, 90, of Parsons, died at 4:15 A.M., Friday, May 22, 2026 at the Presbyterian Manor. Among survivors, is his wife, Margaret, of the home.

James E. “Jim” Clark, 78, of Parsons, passed away at 10:20 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the Oswego Health and Rehab Center. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2026, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons with Tony Hayward officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday. Inurnment will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery at a later date.

Jim was born on March 16, 1948, at Wichita, Kansas to Elmer C. and Mary (Silvers) Clark. He grew up at Wichita and Parsons. He attended Wichita and Labette County schools and graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1966. He attended Parsons Junior College, where he earned an associate’s degree. He served in the United States Army from 1970 until his honorable discharge in 1971.

Jim worked in Wichita and Wellington as a machinist for five years before moving back to Parsons, where he worked at the Katy Railroad, Ruskin Manufacturing, and Power Flame as a machinist and welder. He retired from Power Flame after 22 years of service.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering on projects in his garage, which he was known for keeping well-organized and in immaculate condition, and riding on his tractor. Most of all in his life, he cherished his wife, Kay, of 47 years, his children, and grandkids. He loved going to their activities and ball games and cheering them on.

Jim and Donna Kay Wimp were married on October 6, 1978, at the First Baptist Church in Oswego. She survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Darrell Clark of Joplin, MO; his daughter, Jamie Clark of Parsons; his grandchildren, Kayla Clark, J.D. Clark, Aidan Wells, Lucas Wells, and Levi Wells; his brother, Roger Clark of McCune; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Louise Clark.

Sharon E. Grant, 85, of Springhill, KS passed away at 4:45 p.m., Monday, May 11, 2026 at The University of Kansas – Olathe Campus. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 18, 2026 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Monday.

She was born on July 9, 1940 in Parsons to James and Reola (Smith) Lansdowne. Sharon attended schools in Parsons and graduated from Parsons High School. She worked for over forty years at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center and other various businesses in Parsons. Sharon loved watching KU basketball, listening to Elvis and in her earlier years going to the drive-in movie theatres and taking her children roller skating.

She and Larry Grant were united in marriage and later divorced.

Survivors include her son Tony Grant (Amber) of Olathe, KS and a daughter, Tina Pierce of Springhill, KS; grandchildren, Shawn Lansdowne, Braden Grant (Maia), Kylie Grant, LaKeal Pierce, Akasha

Pierce and Jacquez Ford; great-grandchildren, Leah Smith, Logan Pierce, London Tillman, Asher Grant and Zavier Grant; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Jeff Landsdowne, a daughter, Lori Bowman, and a brother, Jimmy Lansdowne.

Myrtle J. Corle, 76, of McCune, passed away at 2:04 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at her home. The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m., Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons. Burial will follow at the McCune Cemetery in McCune. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.

Myrtle Joanne Hellyer was born on July 17, 1949, to Leonard Grover and Katherine Irene (Meloy) Hellyer in Caney, Kansas.

On August 24, 1979, Myrtle and Robert Earl Corle were united in marriage in Delaware, Oklahoma. For many years, the couple worked together as truck drivers.

A devoted wife and mother, Myrtle loved God, her husband and her children deeply. She was a student of the Bible, reading and studying numerous versions. Her strong, honest, loving character made her a guiding star for her family. She was always happy, enjoyed listening to beautiful music and singing silly songs and was a great storyteller. Camping, fishing, eating catfish and fried chicken, and dancing were some of Myrtle’s favorite things, especially when doing them with her family.

Two sons – William Joseph Hellyer and his wife, Christina, of McCune, Kansas

Howard Corle and his wife, Amanda, of Delaware, Oklahoma

Three daughters – Diana Coram and her husband, Robert, of Altamont, Kanas

Katherine Doodnauth and her husband, Nityan, of Pittsburg, Kansas

Paula Dowell and her husband, Philip, of Bondurant, Iowa

26 grandchildren

28 great-grandchildren

One brother – Milton Grover “Buck” Hellyer and his wife, Judy, of Duncan, Arizona

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Corle, Jr.; a infant daughter, Eva Jean Shelby; one brother, Clinton Leroy Hellyer; and two sisters, Jennie Viola Hill and Sandra Kay Freeman.

Jeffrey (Jeff) Glen Ferguson, 74, of Parsons, died Monday morning at around 4:30 am due to cancer. Jeff was born on Oct. 13th, 1951 in OKC OK to Elburn Glen Ferguson and Helen Margaret (Seward) Ferguson. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the Westside Christian Church. The family moved to Englewood KS where Jeff attended kindergarten and then moved to Dodge City where he attended the rest of his school years and graduated in 1969.

Jeff attended Midwest Christian College (MCC) in OKC, OK. He married Cherie Leigh Keely June 3rd 1972 in Derby KS. Jeff then was drafted into the Army in 1973 and served 3 years and 3 months, receiving his discharge in 1976. He went back to college and graduated from MCC with a Bachelor’s Degree in Ministry and they moved to Custer City, OK to minister. They had a daughter, Treva, lived in Fredonia from 1981 - 1988, Topeka from 1988 until moving to Parsons in 1990. While living in Topeka, Jeff attended Washburn University and received a Physical Therapy Assistant Degree. He worked in Physical Therapy at Labette Health for many years before retiring in 2018. Jeff and Cherie also have 2 sons, Chris and Joel.

Jeff had a minister’s heart and loved to help people in any way he could. He belonged to the Parsons Lion’s Club for many years and served as Club President. He also attended Westside Christian Church and helped in youth ministry, leadership, driving and all areas of church work. Jeff loved cars, played guitar, did upholstery, rode motorcycles, and loved Christian music. Most of he loved his family, esp. his 4 granddaughters.

Jeff was proceeded in death by his parents and survived by his wife Cherie of Parsons, sister Mary K. Hawes of Joshua TX, brother David Paul of Kingston TN, 1 daughter: Treva May of Parsons, 2 sons: Chris, and Joel of Parsons. 7 nieces and nephews, 4 granddaughters, Jocely Covington of FL, Ginny, Isabel and Ariana Ferguson of Parsons.

Any donations given will be forwarded to Westside Christian Church in Honor of Jeffery Glen Ferguson.

Jo Dee Hardman Rye passed away on April 28, 2026 at her home. Cremation has taken place and no service is planned at this time. Carson-Wall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jo Dee graduated from Parsons High School and attended LCC before receiving her degree in social work from Pittsburg State University. She was employed by Meninger’s, SRS, SKIL, and the Parsons State Hospital & Training Center.

She married Harold Rye in Las Vegas on June 20, 1993 and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sister, Judy Morris (Gary) and her brother, Terry Hardman (Kathy), her sister-in-law Pam Hardman, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Lynda Simpson, brother-in-law Bobby Simpson, her brothers Butch Hardman and Bryan Hardman, and her nephew Jason Simpson.

James (Jim) Joseph Dent, 81, of Walnut, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Prairie Mission Retirement Village at St. Paul.Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2026 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Walnut with Fr. Matthew Davied as Celebrant. Family and friends will be received at 9:30 a.m. and the Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 A.M., Saturday prior to the Mass. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Lakeview Cemetery south of Erie.

He was born on January 25th, 1945 in Walnut to Mary Jo (Reeves) and Joseph Dent. He graduated in the class of 1963 from Saint Patrick’s High School in Walnut, Kansas.
Jim grew up on the family farm where he lived all his life. He spent many years as a truck driver, working for Hardwood Products in St. Paul and WSKT/Old Dominion in Parsons. He was a farmer by trade, gardener, and good friend by fault. He had an infectious grin and an unforgettable laugh. On November 15, 1968, he married Pam Carter. They had 5 children (and later divorced).

On February 14, 2009, he married Natalie (Beard) Reissig, she survives of the home. Jim loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jim was a good friend to many and loved to garden and can vegetables, which he shared with everyone. He was well known for his pickled beets.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Citori Lynn Dent, and son Dustin Reissig.

Survivors include his wife Natalie, children Rob (Melinda) Dent, Julie (Aaron) Burd, Lynn Carter, Kate Dent and Chris (Amanda) Dent and Tonya Wiles.
Grandchildren: Justice, Turner and Sydney Dent, Nicholas (Hailee) Bradshaw, Jack, Ella, and Alec (Tasha) Burd, Easton and Ava Dent, and Carter and Aiden Wiles, and two great-granddaughters Logan Bradshaw and Baylor Dent. Siblings: Karen (Lou) O’Brien, Jack (Mary Jane) Dent, Joni (Lynn) Fields and Ted (Reva) Dent.
