Skeg Tas! It has been a very eventful and busy September so I would love to share with you all some events that I did this past month.

On September 5th, I attended Day 2 of the Miss/Jr Miss Pascua Yaqui Pageant held in Tucson, AZ. I want to extend a job well done to the outgoing court, they did a beautiful job representing their community and have grown so much. I would like to congratulate the incoming Miss Pascua Yaqui 2026-2027 Yesenia Solano and Jr Miss Pascua Yaqui 2026-2027 Adrianne Valencia.

On September 6th, I visited the Miss/Jr Miss Salt River Court during their retreat weekend. I was invited to share a few words with the girls about ambassadorship and talk about my experiences as Miss Indian Arizona and as a former titleholder for Salt River.

On September 11, I attended Indian Days at First Mesa Elementary School on the Hopi reservation. It started with a parade featuring students of all grades dressed in their traditional wear, then each grade showcased one Hopi dance. It was amazing to see their community come together for their students!

On September 15th, I attended Tsinabaas Habatiin Elementary School Culture Night held in Gap, AZ. The night started with featured guest Shiyazh Pete, who was the first Navajo player in the NFL. Following, were student led presentations featuring elementary school royalty about Diné culture.

On September 16th, I served as a judge during the Miss/Jr Miss Hikiwan Ceksan pageant. All the participants did an amazing job! Congratulations to Miss Hikiwan Ceksan 2026-2027 Jahleena Miranda and Jr Miss Hikiwan Ceksan 2026-2027 Everdeen Nunez.

I want to thank the Pascua Yaqui Community, Miss Salt River Committee, First Mesa Elementary School, Tsinabaas Habatiin Elementary School, and the Hikiwan District, for inviting me and allowing me a part in your events. It makes me full with gratitude to be able to witness the remarkable talents of our youth. Sapo!

Yá’át’ééh! Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the Navajo Nation Parade and the Miss Navajo Nation Coronation. ✨

We began our day early in the morning, and I was deeply grateful for the opportunity to join the Ms. and Mr. Indigenous ASU Court on their parade float. As an ASU alumna, I am always proud to support and represent the importance of education. This court did a beautiful job representing themselves and demonstrating the leadership and sense of community it takes to navigate their academic journeys while embracing their cultural heritage. 🔱

That afternoon, I was joined by our Second Attendant, Hannah Nockideneh, for the Miss Navajo Nation Coronation. Throughout this past year, we have had the opportunity to interact with and learn from outgoing Miss Navajo Nation Camille Uentillie. She has truly made her community proud through her demonstration of cultural pride and commitment to her people. We wish you the very best in your future endeavors, Camille. It has truly been an honor to witness your journey. ❤️

Congratulations to the three talented contestants who shared their traditional knowledge and demonstrated their leadership throughout this week’s pageant activities. The Miss Navajo Nation Pageant requires tremendous confidence, courage, and compassion, all of which these women demonstrated beautifully.

To the newly crowned 74th Miss Navajo Nation, Roshelle Francisco, we extend our deepest congratulations as you begin your year of service and dedication to the Navajo people and beyond. May your journey be filled with meaningful experiences, continued learning, and opportunities to uplift the communities you represent. ✨

On Friday August 28, Miss Indian Arizona 1st Attendant Chloe Eskey and myself attended the Miss White Mountain Apache Queen Pageant held in Whiteriver, AZ.

Attendees got to see 4 amazing young women participate in this year’s pageant program. They all did an amazing job showcasing their traditional knowledge and talents. We would like to extend a job well done to the outgoing Miss White Mountain Apache Queen 2025-2026 Priya Simpson. She did an amazing job representing herself, her family, and her community. We would also like to congratulate the incoming Miss White Mountain Apache Queen 2026-2027 Rhianna Carroll, 1st Attendant to Miss White Mountain Apache Queen 2026-2027 Ellyanna Williams, and 2nd Attendant to Miss White Mountain Apache Queen 2026-2027 Kamaria Holden.

We would like to thank the White Mountain Apache Tribe for their hospitality as we had a great evening celebrating the outgoing and incoming courts. We can’t wait to see the new court at future events and wish them success in their reigns. Sapo!

I am very excited to invite you all to my platform event that I am hosting next week! This year my platform is “Promoting Cultural Learning in Our Youth Through Traditional Singing and Dancing”. I want to create a space for our Arizona tribal youth to showcase their cultural talents!

This event will take place September 18th at 6pm, located at the Accelerated Learning Academy Gymnasium. There will be on site registration for AZ tribal schools/groups/individuals who are age 21 and under who would like to present their culture starting at 5:15pm. Spots are limited.

This event is open to the public so please come and support our Arizona tribal youth! I hope to see you all there as we showcase the talents of the next generation. Sapo!

Yá’át’ééh! This is First Attendant Chloe Eskey checking in from the 2026 IHEART Summit! ❤️

Held in conjunction with the National Indian Health Board (NIHB) Annual Tribal Health Conference, this year’s Indigenous Health, Education and Resource Taskforce (IHEART) Summit was especially meaningful as I had the opportunity to participate as an IHEART student presenter.

I was grateful to present my graduate applied research, “Framing Health Equity as a Development Challenge: A Comparative Analysis of the Navajo Nation and South Korea,” exploring rural health equity through workforce, infrastructure, technology, and community-centered governance.

I also had the opportunity to share another piece of work close to my heart: my CPR in Diné Bizaad resource, developed through my platform. Being able to bring my academic research and platform work into the same space was such a meaningful reminder of why I continue pursuing work in Indigenous health. ❤️

I wanted to share a piece of my platform that has become very meaningful to me. ✨

Through “Advocating for Cultural Resilience through Community-Based Indigenous Health Education,” I’ve been able to bring together so many things I care about, our language, our communities, education, and Indigenous health.

One thing I’ve really come to appreciate through this work is that knowledge is meant to be shared. Whether it’s through a presentation, a conversation, or even an Instagram post someone saves for later, I hope resources like this can make health education feel a little more familiar and accessible while creating another space for Diné Bizaad to be used and carried forward.

On Saturday August 15th, I attended the Miss Utah Navajo Pageant held in Monument Valley, Utah.

Two young women participated in this year’s pageant and showcased their traditional knowledge and personal talents. Both participants did such an amazing job highlighting their culture. I want to extend a job well done to the outgoing Miss Utah Navajo 2025-2026 Dayhenoa Yazzie for representing herself, her family, and the Navajo Nation chapters that are located in the state of Utah beautifully. I would also like to congratulate Shantel Israel who is the incoming Miss Utah Navajo 2026-2027. I had such a lovely time in Monument Valley meeting with all the royalty in attendance and I’m excited to see what the future holds. Sapo!
