Somehow, the job is never really done for moms, nurses, and teachers- things are always moving in seasons and shifts and need to be done over and over.

It’s the last day of my week of gifts and I decided to gift myself one of the seasonal chores that I actually really enjoy. Flowers and herbs are planted, the bird feeders are filled up, and the patio is ready for quiet evenings watching the birds and enjoying the outdoors. A little pretty goes a long way in giving me peace.

Haylee Huber, you have a gift card coming so you can enjoy doing a refresh too. Maybe you also need new flowers or maybe it’s something else. I hope you find time to treat yourself and remember how much you’re loved and appreciated.

I don’t know many moms, nurses, or teachers who don’t need caffeine on the daily. I usually make my coffee at home, but sometimes a treat is just what I need.

Joszlyn Blanton, you have a gift card to Cowboy Coffee coming! Thank you for all you do, I hope you enjoy a minute to treat yourself!

Happy Mother’s Day! I hope it was a wonderful day full of whatever you needed.

My husband did a great job of loving on me today and I enjoyed my long nap and then a trip to the city for sushi and some time in one of my favorite stores- Trader Joe’s 😍 I handled being without my kids remarkably well- in part because I approached the week and today with a lot of intention. Thank you to all of you for being a part of that. I have really enjoyed figuring out what to gift myself and then sharing that gift with someone else. It’s helped me remember that getting gratitude is nice, but giving it is the real blessing.

Courtney Hoskins, you have a gift card to Trader Joes coming- I hope you know that your work as a teacher and as a mother is so very appreciated. Enjoy a solo shopping trip and get some yummy things just for you!

Moms, nurses, and teachers often put their own physical needs behind everyone else’s. Skipped meals, delayed bathroom breaks, lost hours of sleep- it’s all just part of the gig.

It’s nice to take a minute to take care of myself and one of the ways I do that is with my “fancy” nails. They just make me feel like I’ve got it together a little bit.

My friend Michelle Latto has teamed up with me for today’s gift, so Kala Shae Shay you will be receiving a pack of Red Aspen nails and a gift card to use to buy a whatever else you’d like. Thank you for all you do!

While the specifics are each a little different, moms, teachers, and nurses all often find themselves the primary givers of comfort. They decorate homes and classrooms. They make sure everyone is fed, and warm, and content. It’s something most of us enjoy, but it’s also another layer of responsibility.

Sometimes it’s just fun to shop for things that make us happy with no concern for others needs. Today, I enjoyed browsing sweet Lindsay’s shop Bella B Decor and buying some pretty things just for me.

Addy Hedrick, I hope you know how much your mom Diane Burnett admires the things you do to take care of everyone else. A gift card to Bella B Decor is on its way to you! Enjoy some time treating yourself!

Moms, nurses, and teachers pull some loooong days. Learning to intentionally rest is something nearly everyone of us has had to really work to learn.

When I’ve had a long day or a long week, one of my go to resting plans is curling up on the couch with a good book and some snacks.

No matter how you like to rest and relax, I hope you take some time for yourself Vera Hogg! A Walmart gift card is on its way to you so you can go get whatever you need to have a relaxing night in!

Motherhood, Nursing, and Teaching are long on work and sometimes very short on affirmation or encouragement. It’s not that people don’t appreciate the work we do, they just tend to forget that so much of what we do is proactive, with payout coming much later. We don’t always get the benefit of seeing the fruits of our work right away, sometimes never.

Just a little extra encouragement can be the difference between burnout and having the strength to keep on. Especially if that encouragement is heartfelt and intentional.

So thank you Chiann Miller for what you’ve done and what you continue to do. You’re appreciated and loved! (Your flower delivery will arrive tomorrow, 5/7)

Did you know that before Legacy Homestead, I was a mom, a nurse, AND a teacher- for many years I filled all three roles simultaneously (and did a pretty okay job too 😁)

So, this next week is a big deal to me, with nurses’ week, teachers’ week, and Mother’s Day. There are so many similarities between all three callings, and so many reasons to celebrate those who are doing these jobs.

I’ve decided to spend the week celebrating different aspects of these jobs and giving a gift each day to honor either a teacher, a nurse, or a mother (or a double or triple threat!)

Comment with a nurse, a mom, or a teacher who deserves a little love. From May 6-12, one special person will be picked each day to receive the gift of the day. (Make sure you are available to give me contact info for your nominee so I can send them their gift!)

Not everyone has a cheerleading section- go find someone to bless this week! ❤️

As promised, an update ☺️

It seems a little crazy that it’s been 2 1/2 months since we closed our doors. It’s been both a lot of time and not nearly enough time to find a new groove and start to rebuild a life I can be content in. Some of the things that I’ve done:

I traveled, rested, and spent time in nature and in prayer.

I took up a new hobby that’s been on my bucket list for awhile. I don’t expect to ever be an accomplished artist or anything, but I find it soothing and enjoyable.

Our family celebrated the 50th wedding anniversary of my parents.

I baked and cooked (or didn’t) according to what I wanted to do. No pressure.

I celebrated the holiday season in every little way I could grasp- Hallmark movies galore!

I started not one, but TWO new jobs and laid out a plan for paying off all that I owe AND taking some time to travel and have adventures and just grabbing joy wherever I can.

So, what now? I work like crazy, play like I mean it, and just try really hard to be at peace and okay.

With a 60 hour work week, there won’t be room for much else, so I won’t be pursuing any cooking opportunities right now. I’m still not ready to completely shut that door, so this page will remain and I will share my personal meal preps, farm friends posts, food thoughts, and maybe some recipes. In time, maybe I’ll be able to resume private chef and cottage food offerings. The business phone will be shut down as will the website. The business will remain registered with the state, but inactive for now. Maybe the way forward will become clearer with more time and space.

I can never say enough how much this community means to me and how grateful I am for the support and love. I’ve had the full run of emotions, from sadness to anger, but I can say with confidence, it was absolutely worth it.

And our restaurant era is officially over 😞

I don’t know what happens from here, but I am keeping my business name registered and I’m open to considering opportunities as they come up. I will be returning to my nursing career, so anything I do will have to work with that reality.

I will likely be quiet for awhile. I really haven’t had time to mourn and I find myself a bit frozen, without much fire right now. Once I work through that I will be back in some capacity- sharing recipes, doing some cottage baking, and maybe offering some private chef services.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support and love. So many of you have become family to us and we will miss seeing you regularly. Thank you for believing in my dream and giving me the chance to chase it. It was a privilege and a journey I will never forget. ❤️
