We regretfully mark the passing of Linda S. Burman, age 70, of Panama City, Florida. Linda was surrounded by her loving family when she peacefully left this earth to take her place in Heaven on December 4th, 2022. Linda will be missed by her son, Steven Kelley of Mobile, Alabama and her daughter Stacey Kelley Avrett (Bo) of Niceville, Florida. Linda also leaves behind her three granddaughters, Toni Avrett, Linda Avrett, Megan Kelley and her four great grandchildren Evan, Masyn, Josie and Allie.

After the loss of her beloved husband, Al Burman, Linda dedicated much of her life to helping others cope with the overwhelming grief associated with losing a loved one. She volunteered for many years at the Widowed Persons Society (WPS) of Panama City, Florida and eventually served in different capacities on their Board of Directors. She was very proud and passionate about the work the society did to help others within the community. She touched so many lives and made many great friends through her years at WPS. She was adamant that no one should grieve her own passing. In accordance with her final wishes, her family will hold a Celebration of Life at the Widowed Persons Society, located at 1144 Grace Avenue, Panama City Florida, at 1pm this Saturday, December 17th, 2022. All are welcome to send flowers or attend and celebrate the life of this special woman that meant so much to so many.

— You Don’t Just Lose Someone Once —
You lose them over and over,
sometimes many times a day.
When the loss, momentarily forgotten,
creeps up,
and attacks you from behind.
Fresh waves of grief as the realisation hits home,
they are gone.
Again.

You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every time you open your eyes to a new dawn,
and as you awaken,
so does your memory,
so does the jolting bolt of lightning that rips into your heart,
they are gone.
Again.

Losing someone is a journey,
not a one-off.
There is no end to the loss,
there is only a learned skill on how to stay afloat,
when it washes over.

Be kind to those who are sailing this stormy sea,
they have a journey ahead of them,
and a daily shock to the system each time they realise,
they are gone,
Again.

You don’t just lose someone once,
you lose them every day,

for a lifetime.

Grief brings on so much additional anxiety. If we've been through the unthinkable -- the loss of a child -- what will be next? Our minds become so full of fear that often our anxiety overtakes us. It's so hard to trust in life again once a child dies. Life isn't supposed to be this way!

It's impossible to go back to being the person we were before our child died. Child loss changes so much of the way we view life from that moment on. Our priorities change. Our goals change. Our hearts change. We see everything through changed eyes and a heart that has been broken by so much pain. In some ways we grow softer; in other ways we grow a bit calloused. One thing is for certain. Child loss changes us forever. There's no going back.

May the hope of this Easter Day carry you through the pain of losing your precious child. May your faith help you to believe that heaven is real and your child will be there waiting to greet you!
