cause it's usually a happy time and great memories are made there. Memories that, if vivid enough, will last an entire lifetime! The history of celebration cakes can be traced back to times of preceding the ancient Roman Empire! Warriors returning from the crusades were greeted with huge gatherings to celebrate their safe return. Bakers and servants would create specialty breads to be enjoyed after the feast to honor their warriors. Over time, empires toppled, new rulers came to power.....and lost it. But, celebrations continued and so did the tradition of cake. Over time those special breads became more elaborate. Early cake designers would experiment with different flavors and fillings to reach that next level. They tried to make the memory of the party last and to have the cake that nobody would soon forget. Cakes began to be less like bread and more of a cake. As centuries progress and ingredients improve, so do the cakes. Robust flavors, new shapes and the first idea to stack a cake for effect happened within the last century!
