My heavy blooms 😍 these eggs are part of my breeding project for purple eggs next season .
The bloom is the protective film all chickens lay over their eggs, however some lay a heavier layer than others resulting in the egg appearing a different color. This is a genetic trait, and the goal is with the beautiful pink eggs being crossed with my pure BCM rooster, the natural brown shell will become darker with the heavy bloom being passed down and the eggs will appear dark pink/purple. It might take a few generations to get to my goal color, but I love a good rainbow basket 🧺

These cute little babies got set in the incubator just before I was able to secure my pure Cayuga drake and a few more hens. So these are still crossed with pekin but a nice little milestone as these will be the last crossed ducks I hatch. The next ducklings hatching in 3 weeks will be PURE Cayuga and I can’t wait. But we can still admire how adorable these babies are!

The color difference between black and blue copper marans. Both lay the same gorgeous dark brown eggs . Which color do you prefer? I’m adding more blues to my flock this year because I love both ❤️
