Sometimes you just have to try something and have fun. My youngest son wanted a working gumball machine cake. So, I made a working gumball machine cake. The covering is fondant, the dome is gelatin, the base is strawberry cake, and there is a rotating pipe inside that does release a gumball. It's not perfect in every way, but it made him extremely happy and that was worth it.
