Wahoo! Good news! I was able to buy an adaptor from Germany to fit on my newly acquired Kitchen Aid to enable me to use my original Messerschmidt Flaker that I used at Our daily bread bakery, Pensacola! It works….. its a big deal for me as I well know about the nutritional value of freshly rolled oats! The most amazing part of this story was that I couldnt obtain this adaptor over here in US….. I had to order from Amazon Germany, have it shopped to my daughters house in UK first!

So, I am hoping soon to start making some freshly rolled granolas. Please let me know in the comments if you are interested in buying them again from me? I used to make several different types including Cranberry/Orange, Mocha Nut and Cinnamon/Raisin.

Hi, I am hoping to get hold of an original Bosch Universal. When I moved back to England, after Tom passed away, I had to sell or give away everything! My Bosch was very key to rolling my oats for my popular granolas at Palafox! I am trying to find one again now Im back in the area. Please help me by possibly asking around. I dont think that the new models will work with my flaker/roller.

Hi my Einkorn and ancient grain loving peeps! In case you have forgotten me at Our daily bread bakery, I’m saying hi and giving you an update! Some will remember my dear hubby Tom (who was with me at the Palafox market stall almost every week from 2011. -2018) ….. he passed on in 2022 after a journey with a brain tumour. I had to close the bakery as I needed to care for him from 2018. Then I moved back to the UK to be near my dear Mum. Now she is not with us and so I decided to move back to Florida.

All that to say that I’m aiming to start baking again and to start with, it’ll be my freshly rolled granolas at Pace market on Woodbine road on Saturdays. I have a request; if you or someone you know has a Bosch universal mixer that they like to sell or gift me even, please let me know. Thanks!

There’s nothing like home made sourdough!

We encourage people to make their own Real Bread or buy it from a local, indie bakery.

From the Money Blog today: 'In the latest edition of Our Verdict, our testers blind-tasted 11 pre-cut, pre-packaged white sourdough loaves. Judging them on flavour and texture, only two won their seal of approval, and some big and popular brands struggled.'

It went on to note: 'It's worth stating that not all supermarket loaves are strictly sourdough, which traditionally is made using only flour, water, salt, with a "starter" made from a live mixture of flour and water which ferments to give sourdough its distinct taste.

The term "sourfaux" has been coined for loaves that don't meet the criteria - we've included the ingredients listed for each loaf so you can make up your own mind... but even then it's not always simple.

For example, the Real Bread Campaign has questioned wording such as "fermented flour", as this can incorporate propionic acid, which is a preservative.'

We’ve started receiving emails and social media comments from people who’ve begun noticing folic acid on ingredients lists and want or, in some cases, need to avoid this synthetic addition to their flour, bread or industrial dough products.
