Many (many, many) years ago, my husband won a trip to Belgium. Not really a destination we had on our radar, but when you win a trip, you go, even if you're six months pregnant, which I was.

We bought our first waffles from a street vendor before we checked into our hotel. It was the most amazing thing I'd ever eaten. These were not the fluffy batter-based waffles from pancake restaurants and hotel lobbies. These were yeast rolls, buttery and sweet and rich and covered in caramelized sugar. Heaven wrapped in waxed paper. We ate them every day, several times a day. No syrup, no toppings, just that yummy sweet bread covered in sugar.

When we got back home, I decided I was going to figure out how to make those waffles, and I finally did. I'm pretty darn excited to start offering them at the bakery. Starting July 17th, I will have them available on Saturdays only from opening at 7am until we run out. Come and get one before they're gone!

House-made candied lemon peel,
Lavender from Prairie Lavender Farm in Bennington, KS,

(*My apologies to the M-word-haters. A friend of mine replaces the M-word with "full of moisture", but I didn't think the substitution worked well when describing a scone. You might hate the word, but you'll love the scone.)
