Cake rating from me personally? Probably an 8/10 — but decorators are usually their own toughest critics. 😂
The client loved this cake, but this one taught me an important lesson as an artist: trust the skill set you’ve spent years building.
Mixed media cakes are HARD. Colors do not naturally match across buttercream, chocolate, shimmer, fondant, and decorative elements. A huge amount of behind-the-scenes work goes into making multiple mediums visually flow together as one cohesive design.
This time, instead of using my normal methods, I stepped outside my comfort zone and tried Wilton melting chocolate for the honey effect. And respectfully… it confirmed exactly why I usually trust buttercream and high-quality chocolate in my kitchen. 😂
But once it was on, it was ON. By then, I had already spent hours creating whimsical florals, sparkle details, bees, and carefully balancing every color throughout the design. The photos honestly don’t capture how magical this cake looked in person. Every flower shimmered and had its own little personality.
And honestly? That’s the beauty of being an artist. Sometimes growth happens in real time. Sometimes the lesson isn’t about lacking skill — it’s about learning to fully trust the skill you already have. 💛🐝
