Buy Local Girl Scout Cookies through March 28!
Girl Scouts in Oswego are rolling into their final week of cookie selling. It’s been an amazing run of cookie warrior weekends with the girls working hard to overcome obstacles, from how to handle cookie booths, to making sure they have enough cookies to meet Oswego’s incredible Girl Scout Cookie appetite. Imagine our surprise when strolling through Price Chopper this morning, we spotted an entire endcap of Girl Scout Cookies! Yikes! Those aren’t “our” cookies. It was an exchange with a customer that prompted us to create this post.
Here’s the deal. The cookies that you will see at the local Price Choppers starting today do not “directly” benefit the Girl Scout Troops in the Oswego area. Those cookies are part of the Northeastern New York sale that has just started. Actually, it wasn’t supposed to start until March 29, after our local girls had a chance to wrap up their sales and get out of the way.
So the question becomes, doesn’t the income from the sale of Girl Scout Cookies all go to the same place? No, it doesn’t. When you buy from a girl standing the post at a booth sale, or from one of our Community Partners, or from a girl via her Digital Cookie site, those cookie sales directly benefit the Girl Scouts, Troops and Council for the Oswego area. This is our version of ‘Buy Local” The local troops earn a portion of the sale of these cookies and that money stays in our local economy. It helps us create programs for the girls that directly benefit our community.
Does this mean you shouldn’t get your Girl Scout Cookie fix from the endcap at Price Chopper? Well, if you could just hold off for a bit, that would be great. From now through March 28, if you all could do everything you can to buy from the local Girl Scouts that would help us out tremendously as we wrap up our sale. After March 28, when our Girl Scouts in Oswego are done selling, then grab your cookies from Price Chopper. Where does the money go from those cookies? It goes to the girls in the Albany area with a ‘tip out’ to our local council for use of space.
Where can you get cookies locally until March 28?
From any of our wonderful Community Partners: Ontario Orchards, Paul’s Big M, Garafolos, Red’s Scriba Market, Kathy’s Cakes, and Northern Ace Hardware. You can also hit any of the booths operating, they are at Lowe’s until 2pm and Walmart until 6pm, today with next Saturday and Sunday as well. Lastly buying from any girl still selling is always an option.
Oswego, you are amazing! You always come through for the girls each cookie season and we love you for it! The girls are looking forward to getting back to the events they love to do for you all. We hope to see you soon.
