Happy 4th of July. Today we celebrate our independence. When in July 4, 1776 was signed the Declaration of Independence. Almost a year later, in June 14, 1777, The first act stated that βthe flag of the US shall consist of 13 alternating stripes of red on white with 13 white stars on a blue field forming a new constellation. This was due to the original 13 colonies. Ever since that day we have changed our flag to add our 50 states. The last state to be added to the flag was Hawaii in July 4, 1960 . Before this, from July 4, 1959 to July 3, 1960 the flag had 49 stars.

Fun Facts about our Country:
π΅π· On March 2, 1917, Wilson signed the Jones-Shafroth Act, under which Puerto Rico became a U.S. territory and Puerto Ricans were granted statutory citizenship, meaning that citizenship was granted by an act of Congress and not by the Constitution (thus it was not guaranteed by the Constitution). This is why Puerto Ricans observes 4th of July like the rest of the states.
π According to the 1775 edition of the Pennsylvania Journal, Benjamin Franklin wanted a rattlesnake to be the national animal instead of the Bald Eagle. He even wrote an essay about it. He also wrote a letter to his daughter criticizing how the original design of the bald eagle looked like a turkey.
πΊπΈThe federal constitution does not make a reference to God as such, although it uses the formula "the year of our Lord" in Article VII. The phrase "under God" was incorporated into the Pledge of Allegiance on June 14, 1954, by a Joint Resolution of Congress amending Β§ 4 of the Flag Code enacted in 1942.
