Yes, I made my own birthday cake this year for the big 5-0! My bestie Becky & Sean hosted an absolutely wonderful party for me and I wanted the cake to be a thank you to all of my friends that came to celebrate with us!
It was a BIG cake! It was a 12” cake with four layers of Black Cocoa cake, brushed with simple syrup. There was peanut butter buttercream between each of the layers, with a layer of chocolate ganache and chopped peanut butter Oreo cookies in between the center layers. I frosted the entire cake with peanut butter buttercream and let it set. I then frosted it again with Black Cocoa buttercream. I did a jagged band of black fondant around the lower half of the cake and brushed edible gold leaf on all of the top edges.
The rounded bead candies along the bottom of the cake are melted Reese’s baking chips I reformed using silicone molds. I used more melted baking chips to make the black and peanut butter flowers. The upright disc is melted black candy wafers.
My friend, Michele thankfully handled cutting the cake like a pro! Everyone really seemed to enjoy the cake and there were some leftovers for guests to take home!
It was certainly a memorable cake for an outstanding evening to ring in my 50’s! I feel truly blessed!
