Tell me this cake isn’t peak 2000s in the best possible way. 😂

I pulled this SweetCakes throwback from a wedding in Ybor City, and the second I saw it again, all I could think about was early Vera Bradley. The chocolate brown, the white piping, those big swirling floral patterns… you can practically see the 2000s wedding stationery that would have gone with it.

And ALL of that detail was piped by hand.

But here’s a little cake detail you might not know: this was a Mocha cake with my signature buttercream and modeling chocolate. And if you’ve never tasted modeling chocolate before, think Tootsie Roll. It gives me another medium to decorate with while still keeping the cake delicious.

It’s funny how clearly cakes capture the design trends of a specific time. Give it another few years and I’m sure we’ll be piping these swirls all over again. 🤎🍰

A sweet table for the bride-to-be. 🤍🌿

For Lexi’s bridal shower, we carried these soft greens throughout the entire dessert display, from the petite cakes and floral details to the mini desserts. I loved getting to create something that felt like part of the beautiful room around it rather than just dessert sitting on a table.

And of course, getting a photo with the bride herself made it even sweeter. 🤍🍰

Congratulations, Lexi! One celebration closer to “I do.”

From tasting cakes in March to wedding cake in just over a week. 🤍🍰

Sometimes an inquiry comes through that makes my whole day. 🤍

Back in July of 2024, I made an engagement party cake for Aslyn and her fiancé. I remembered the cake and the couple, but after so much time had passed without hearing anything about their wedding, I assumed they had probably found another baker.

And that’s okay! Couples have so many decisions to make between an engagement and a wedding, and a lot can change along the way.

Then, almost two years later, this landed in my inbox:

**“It was by far the best cake my fiancé and I ever had.”**

Well... that will make a cake lady smile. 🥹🍰

Aslyn is now planning their March 2027 wedding and reached back out to SweetCakes. This Saturday, they’ll be sitting at my table for a custom tasting consultation, trying flavors, talking through ideas, and beginning the process all over again, this time for their wedding cake.

I think one of my favorite things about doing this for so many years is realizing that you never really know which cakes are going to stick with people.

Sometimes you make a cake for one celebration, everyone eats it, you pack up and move on to the next.

And then two years later, you find out they remembered.

I’m so excited to have these two back at SweetCakes and to see where we go from here. 🤍

Starting a little SweetCakes throwback series with one I still adore. 🤍

This cake was created for the Bayless/Raysin wedding years back on September 12th at Lakeland Country Club, and I still love the way those oversized sugar petals seem to blossom right across the tiers. It was such a striking design then, and I think it holds up beautifully today.

There are some pretty incredible Lakeland connections behind this wedding too, which makes it an especially fun one to pull from the archives.

Should I keep digging through the SweetCakes vault? 🍰

I think one of the reasons I’ve always been drawn to bespoke design is that I genuinely don’t want to make the same cake twice. 🤍

Give me the unusual detail from your invitation. Let me see the embroidery on your dress, the architecture of your venue, the flowers you can’t stop talking about, or the little piece of your story that might mean absolutely nothing to anyone else.

Those are the things that get my wheels turning.

I love the challenge of taking all of those seemingly unrelated pieces and figuring out how they could become a wedding cake that makes complete sense once you see it in the room.

Sometimes that means designing a new technique. Sometimes it means engineering something I’ve never built before. And sometimes it means an idea evolves several times before we land on the one.

That process is a huge part of the fun for me.

So yes, I know “bespoke” gets thrown around a lot these days. But when I use it to describe SweetCakes, I mean it quite literally.

Your cake didn’t exist before you. 🤍🍰

Today I’m in the kitchen baking, filling, frosting, and preparing plenty of tasters for everyone coming out to the event. I can’t wait to share a little taste of SweetCakes, meet some newly engaged couples, and see everything the incredible vendor team has been working on.
