National Dress in Blue Day for colon cancer is held annually on the first Friday in March to kick off National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. In 2026, this falls on March 6, 2026. Supporters are encouraged to wear blue throughout the entire month to raise awareness and support screenings.

Key Details:
Purpose: Raise awareness, honor survivors, and promote screening (which is recommended for most at age 45).

Origin: The day was started in 2006 by Anita Mitchell, a colon cancer survivor, and is heavily supported by the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.

Action: Wear blue, take a photo, and post to your social media!

When you tag us Lisa’s Spark of Hope in your post with your picture, we will enter you into a drawing to win a small gift of Lisa’s Spark of Hope, Inc. merch!

Mark your calendar, plan your wardrobe for Friday, March 6, 2026 and don’t forget to post it by Friday night. We will draw with a live spin on Saturday night!

It’s a new year and Lisa’s Spark of Hope can’t wait for the year ahead. We are hard at work planning our fundraisers and can’t do it without the amazing, supportive volunteers we have.

I’d like to take the time to introduce each of our members so periodically you will be seeing a member spotlighted so you can get to know us.

So to start, my name is Shannon and I am President of Lisa’s Spark of Hope and am also on the fundraising, social media committees. I currently live in Albany NY, where I own my own business as a hair stylist, work part time for a company called Organized Senior Moves, and am also a writer/publisher.

I have known Lisa for 25 years. I met her while working at J.C. Penny. She worked the jewelry department and I worked in the salon. We became fast friends and I was her hairstylist for years until I moved out of the area. We had stayed in touch and when Lisa was diagnosed with cancer and started her own foundation to help support cancer patients, she asked if I would help and I said yes with no hesitation. After she passed with her courageous 4 year cancer fight, her family and friends started a nonprofit organization, in her memory, which you know as Lisa’s Spark of Hope 💙
