Last week, I was doing what I always do — scrolling through Facebook Marketplace looking for used restaurant equipment. It’s honestly one of my favorite things to do. That’s when I came across this ginormous mixer and immediately messaged the seller.
We set up a time to meet that Saturday. So last weekend, my husband, our baby, and I went to check it out. That’s when I met Andrea and her husband, owners of — a bakery I’m sure so many of you already know and love.
They were the sweetest people. So kind, understanding, and welcoming.
Unfortunately, I didn’t end up getting the mixer because it was a 60-quart mixer, and my husband quickly reminded me there is absolutely no amount of power in our house capable of running that beast. I was definitely disappointed… but I did end up getting a few smaller things that I’m really excited about.
But the part of this story that really stayed with me happened as we were leaving.
I noticed these beautiful framed pictures hanging on the wall, so I casually asked Andrea if she was planning on selling any of them too. Immediately, I could tell the pictures meant a lot to her, and she became emotional. I reassured her that she absolutely did not have to part with them.
She began telling me about her favorite one — how she bought it right before they opened their storefront. The picture eventually became a representation on their most popular sandwich the muffaletta.
I told her that if she ever chose to let it go, I would cherish it. That it would hang proudly in my bread stand for everyone to see and appreciate. And if she ever changed her mind, she could always come take it back.
In the end, she gave me the picture.
I know that could not have been easy. Closing a bakery that has meant so much to so many people has to be incredibly emotional, and my heart truly goes out to Andrea and her husband during this season of change. I’m so proud of them for choosing what’s best for themselves and their family.
So tomorrow, while you’re picking up your orders or stopping by on Saturday, take a moment to look at the picture hanging in its new home — and remember the story and love behind it. ♥️
