The rumors are true, MeMe G's has closed permanently. While it is bittersweet, we are OK. Owning a small business is hard work. We were prepared for that as Cory has been a business owner for decades, however, we're at a point where we're watching the time with our children slip away and we're missing it. Not anymore. Our health and our family are more important than success and titles. We made this decision together, but not because we didn't appreciate each and every one of our loyal customers. We have had the privilege of being part of the happiest days of your lives -- weddings, baby showers, anniversaries, reunions, birthdays -- and that has brought us immense joy.
We poured everything we had into MeMe G's and honoring the legacy of Cory's mom. Today, we reflect on the successes and are proud to say that we gave it our best. We hope we were able to teach our kids some valuable lessons - we couldn't have done any of this without their support, hard work and understanding. The support of literally sleeping on an air mattress some nights when we had to be there around the clock to make things happen, Chloe's hard work and dedication of not only working her shifts, but filling in when others would call out, and their understanding of why we couldn't go on real family vacations or both be there for important events. They kept us going, but it's time to shift our focus to our family and what's best for all of us.
The business(es) are for sale. We would love to support someone with the drive and energy to take over where we left off and keep MeMe G's a part of the community - it's turnkey and ready to roll. If not, we will begin selling the equipment we've used to make what you have called the "best donut you've ever had" and pizza that's "unlike anything else in the area."
For now, Cory is headed back to the contracting world. On Sunday, we rode in the SAME car at the SAME time to Gunner's football game, something we haven't been able to do for a very long time.
One of Gunner's friends asked Cory this weekend why we were closing. His response was simple, "I miss watching you guys do your thing." With tears in his eyes, the now sixth grade creator of the Tasmanian Terrill Walkoff looked at another of our "adopted" boys and said, "He's telling the truth. He means it." And he does. We do. We can't wait to see you all keep doing your thing on the field, at concerts, and in life. We'll be there rooting for you all as you have cheered for us.
Lastly, we would like to thank the village of friends who helped us keep it all together during those long days by helping with rides, snacks and sleepovers. Your kindness and love for our kids as if they are your own is something we treasure.
And we would like to thank all of you for your support, kind words and encouragement over the last few years. You've kept us going even on the longest days and we are forever grateful. Please don't forget how important it is to support your local businesses!
