"Preaching the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, no man forbidding him." -Acts 28:31
I was honored to be asked to make some cookies for a preacher's meeting that my church was hosting at the beginning of this week. It's always a little scary having other people judge my work, but with this set, I also felt the need to properly convey the love I have for my Saviour.
When I tell you I AGONIZED over how to make these look!! I had three basic components I was going for, and as I sat there staring at my list of "musts," it suddenly clicked.
My granddad was a pastor for over 40 years, only just retiring this May. His church was located in a small Midwest town right on the Mississippi River. It was the epitome of a small country church. And I loved going every time we visited.
Maybe it was the fact that we were visiting family, or maybe it was the fact that going "home" always felt like stepping back in time. Either way, it always seemed to me - as I walked through the front doors of that old white church with the old-fashioned steeple countless times; as we sang songs from hymnals that, though old, still hold deep truths today; and as we heard preaching from a Bible that likely had a thousand notes in the margins - it always seemed evident that the love of God was seeped into the very walls.
It's not often that my desserts get to reflect one of the most integral parts of my being, but when they do, they end up being my favorite sets I make.
