This was six years ago today. Feels like a lifetime ago…
Three of the six people pictured are still helping me serve the freshest bread available to you six days a week! Four of these people are attending college. One of them is an engineering grad student and another is in their second year of dental school.
To say I have been blessed with trusted and loyal help is truly an understatement❤️❤️❤️

Authentic Irish Soda bread and I forgot just how popular it is…until today😩
I made a rookie mistake by not making enough! We sold out immediately. Therefore, we’ll triple the batch size for tomorrow with hopes there will still be some to enjoy for the afternoon visitors to the bakery❤️

Happy New Year from all of us here at Breadsmith of Okemos🥳
As I reflect on the completion of my 25th year and begin my 26th year as the proprietor of the business, I’m reminded of just how very fortunate I’ve been.
One can measure success in several ways, but I’ll hang my hat on one true fact. I’ve been blessed with some phenomenally dedicated and loyal staff members who have helped me keep this place going, especially through periods of circumstances beyond my control that would have devastated most small businesses. I’ll admit there were times over the course of the last seven years where I thought we were done. Beginning with the Ransomware attack which wiped out almost 20 years of computer data (including but not limited to all of our original recipes) and the almost simultaneous pandemic and over ten month intersection closure where our sales were down 35%.
We must be doing something right because 2025 was our best sales year to date! This would never have been possible without the aforementioned staff.
Lilah and Xander, the children of Joanne who has been with me for 25 years, appear in the attached photo. I cannot describe what a distinct honor it is to be in business long enough to be able to employ the children of an employee. This is how I measure success!!!
