Born in Ireland in the 7th century, St. Dymphna was martyred for the faith at 15 years of age. After her mother died, her father suffered mental illness and severe grief at the loss of his wife. Tradition says an evil advisor suggested to her father to marry his own daughter. When St. Dymphna refused to marry her father, he gruesomely killed her with a sword to her head. The locals carried her body and laid it to rest in a cave, she was known to them as the Lily of Eire (symbol of purity and innocence). In the mid 1300’s a church was built honoring her and by the mid 1400’s pilgrims were gathering to seek her intercession.

She is the patron saint of mental illness, mental health providers, neurological disorders, against epilepsy, against sleepwalking, martyrs, r**e victims

Today is the feast day of St. Joan of Arc….

Her story is met with fortitude, victory, humility, and tragedy.

Fortitude for having the courage to say yes to God’s calling for her.

Victory for leading an army to battle and reclaiming the throne for the real King of France.

Humility for when the King wanted to reward her with treasure, all she wanted was to go back to her small village to live out her life as it once was.

Tragedy for when she was found guilty of being a heretic by an ecclesiastical court and she was burned to life at the stake.

When being tried by the judges, they asked her how she knew if she was in God’s Grace. Her response “If I am not, may it please God to put me in it; if I am, may it please God to keep me there.”

St. Joan of Arc… pray for us.

She is the patron saint of prisoners, martyrs, soldiers, opposition of church authority, people ridiculed for their piety, r**e victims.

Today’s Saint is the patron of adopted children. Born in the 12th century in Scotland, he had a conversion to the faith later in life. After his conversion, he was known to care for neglected children, he donated a portion of his earnings to support the poor, he attended daily mass, and dedicated his life to Christ. While on a pilgrimage in England, he was martyred for the faith. A woman came upon his body and was healed of her ailments after touching him. Immediately, the local monks began to build a chapel and shrine in his honor. Even though his chapel was destroyed by King Henry the VIII, some of the remains can still be seen today.

On this journey that we call life, we go through different seasons, trials, and milestones. We experience different joys and blessings, we endure different heart aches, struggles, and frustrations. Today’s Saint shows us that it is possible to be obedient and faithful to God in all circumstances. Born in Italy in the 14th century, St. Rita had a desire to become a religious sister. Her parents had other plans and wanted her to marry. Being obedient to her parents, she married and had twin boys. Unfortunately she endured 18 years of abuse in her marriage, her husband was murdered, and later her sons both died.

Once again, she was called to religious life. At the age of 36 she became an Augustinian nun. She is known for her prayerfulness, charity towards others, and self-discipline for leading a life of faithfulness to God. She had mystical prayer experiences, one being when she received a wound on her forehead. For 15 years, this wound went unhealed and is thought to be a wound received by Christ similar to a thorn puncture.

St. Rita is the patron saint of impossible causes, difficult marriages, infertility, and parenthood.

Sugar Rush!!! It’s been a whirlwind of a spring…. Here’s a little peak at what’s been going on in my baking world. Since I last posted an update, we’ve been through Valentine’s and Easter. I had the amazing opportunity to be a vendor at the Oklahoma Catholic Women’s Conference. There’s been several birthday orders and Saint cookie orders. And a wedding in there too.

Enjoy!

Today is the feast of St. Joseph the worker. Joseph is the foster father of Jesus and husband to Mary. Do you ever wonder what it was like sitting in a room with Joseph? Maybe Jesus is there too or maybe even Mary? Regardless of who is there with you, I picture Joseph being very intentional with whatever he’s doing. Taking the extra time to complete his task to the very best of his ability. He doesn’t talk very much, but when he does it is something worth listening to and to contemplate. He’s kind of like your wise old grandpa or maybe recluse uncle who gives you a suggestion for completing a project. Your first thought might be, no, I don’t want to do it that way. But then you think, I better take his suggestion because deep down you know he’s right.
Everyday we complete tasks. How intentional are we at completing them? Are we in the moment of that activity or are we miles away? Do we try and multitask several things at once? Are we curiously quiet like St. Joseph or do we fill our minds with an endless trail of rubbish?

This particular St. Joseph set of cookies is one of my very most favorite sets I’ve ever created!!! 🤩🤩🤩
These were for a friend named Taylor.
St. Joseph is very close to her heart. [if she sees this post…. Shout out to you, Taylor, you are amazing!! ]

And I’ll leave you with some words of wisdom from my amazing pastor…..

“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.”

These powerful words come from St. Catherine of Siena, Dominican tertiary and Doctor of the church.

Like with all the saints, their example leads us to Christ. Deep in our hearts, we all have been given the desire to love our creator and do his will, but it seems St. Catherine had a much better understanding of this than most do. St. Catherine’s journey towards holiness starts when she was a young girl. At 6 years old, she would do small penances throughout the day to help souls in need. As a young lady, she united her sufferings with Jesus’ as she completed her chores and daily tasks.

Most of us are called to marriage, some of us are called to religious life or the priesthood, and like St. Catherine, some are called to consecrate their life to Christ as a lay person. Much to her parent’s disapproval, she refused any marriage proposals and became a 3rd order Dominican. She lived out the rest of her life in dedicated prayer, serving her community, and preaching the gospel.

Her life was filled with many trials and sufferings, she lived during the time of the plague (1374) and felt called to help nurture and care for those who were sick. Also, during this time, the pope was residing in Avignon, France. Some would say he was living a life of luxury rather than of service. This little 28 year old, 3rd order Dominican from Italy felt called to do something about this. With God’s help, she was able to have a meeting with Pope Gregory XI. From this meeting, his heart was transformed and he moved the papacy back to Rome.

In silence, she suffered the stigmata of Christ and at the age of 33 died from an unknown (improperly diagnosed) cause. Even after her death, her faith and love for God shines brightly. In 1970, she was proclaimed a Doctor of the church. This title is given to those whose writings and teachings are worthy to be used to better understand the doctrines of the faith.

Her examples of living the faith can inspire us to greatness. Don’t be afraid to allow her to show you the way towards the light, closer to holiness, into a deeper relationship with Jesus.

What might this path look like?
~Daily prayer with an intentional desire to seek God’s will for that day
~Actually doing what you are being called to
~Uniting your sufferings, frustration, temptations to Christ’s suffering for souls in need
~Serving your family and community with joy and love
~Sharing the faith with others

She is the patron saint of nurses, firefighters, Theta Phi Alpha sorority, against illness, against temptations,

“Be who God meant you to be and you will set the world on fire.”

April 28th

Today is the feast day of St. Gianna Beretta Molla, she is the patron Saint of mothers, pregnant women, and unborn children.

Her and her husband, Pietro, are an inspiration for virtuously living out the vocation of marriage. They were constantly offering each other up in prayer, they intentionally had Jesus at the center of their lives and marriage, and they lovingly and charitably served their family and community.

She and Pietro had 3 children; with her 4th pregnancy she was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst. The doctor encouraged her to abort her baby but she chose life. After having her baby, Gianna ended up passing away due to complications. Her daughter, Gianna Emanuela is still alive today! Because of her mother’s courage and trust in the Lord, Gianna Emanuela supports and brings awareness for the Respect for Life Ministry and Miscarriage Ministry.

As for my own journey, I look up to Gianna Molla as an example of how I can live out my vocation as wife and mother more boldly, more prudently, more patiently.

“Love and sacrifice are closely linked, like the sun and the light. We cannot love without suffering and we cannot suffer without love".

Today is the feast day of St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus and husband of Mary. I have learned an interesting aspect about St. Joseph that I hadn’t ever really thought about before.

Joseph is curiously quiet.

His silence might cause us to think he’s not that important. In actuality his silence teaches us the importance of listening. We must take time everyday to quiet our heart and mind to be able to hear God speak to us.

Obedience is another characteristic of Joseph that might often be overlooked. Not only did Joseph hear what God was asking of him; he was obedient to the tasks given to him. He took Mary as his wife, he traveled to Bethlehem with Mary, he fled to Egypt with his family, he guarded and protected Mary and Jesus.
