Batik And Baker is a pastry pop-up and micro bakery serving sweets and snacks inspired by Malaysian and Southeast Asian flavors, and a showcase of California’s seasonal produce. Batik And Baker also makes whole cakes and sweets for celebrations and events. You can find Batik And Baker every Saturday (except the first Saturday of each month) at pop-up locations throughout the Bay Area. It's taking me forever to put something out there because
1/ My indecisiveness with the logo
2/ I have to revise my menu & retest all the bakes depending on what ingredients are available here
3 / I have to figure out logistics: start with bake boxes that will get delivered (perishability in this hot weather?!) or dive into pop-ups (🚨 what store/cafe would host me? If you know someone, hook me up!)
4/ t's lunar new year madness the next 2 weeks with friends and family, then I'll be away in Europe for a few weeks, so hoping to her some treats out before the end of March!

If I could bring everything with me, I would but there are way too many variables in Malaysia - voltage, oven sizes - but also, we're looking at apartments with tiny kitchens. A few highlights:
✨️ Sheeter: This is how my sablés are of consistent thickness. Also super helpful for final rollout for my hand-laminated puff pastry.
✨️ Speed Rack: Absolute space saver. Use to cool cakes/cookies, proof your breads, organize mise ingredients; best part is it's on wheels, so tuck it away when you're done.
✨️ Baking pans sheets: Half size baking sheets, all stackable. Also 8x8 square-sided baking pans, perfect for cakes with sharp edges - no rounded corners here!

A gigantic THANK YOU to everyone who showed up last two Saturdays to supoort the farewell pop-ups. I feel lucky, loved and exhausted 😊 And also, a heartfelt thank you too to hosts Christine & team and Grace & team ❤️.
More photos to come but for now, I'm taking a 48 hour break from all things baking, social media and emails to decompress. On the schedule: a thai massage, a much needed pedicure, yoga, catching up on Sandman, The Bear and RuPaul's Drag Race.

/ july 2025 / I was struggling to figure out what to put on this last menu. Was fighting the urge to put something brand new just for the heck of it (banana white sesame choux), or to offer a savory snack from the archives (taro slice with shrimp & shallots), but after seeing everyone's response to the question on must-haves that I posed earlier this week, it felt right to feature these faves. And, keeping true to my approach since day one, I would eat everything on this menu.

PSA Public Snack Announcement: My Sunchoke Miso & Furikake Sablés are made with Sunchoke Miso - a small-batch miso crafted from koji rice, organic heirloom sunchokes, and sea salt. ⚠️ Limited Batch Alert ⚠️ They are running low on this batch and I've only got a limited supply of the miso, so be sure to try these sablés before they’re gone! Once it’s out, that’s it for this flavor.
If you're enjoying the miso, be sure to also pick up a jar from Shared Cultures too!
These buttery, crisp cookies are part of my savory-sweet selection of sablés, and when paired bonito furikake and flaky sea salt, this miso brings a delish dash of umami to this classic French cookie.

/ june 2025 / It’s finally happening. The last four pop-ups before I start to attempt to pack more than 15 years of Bay Area living into boxes to be shipped across the world to Malaysia.
Here’s what you can expect for Batik And Baker’s farewell tour:

I'll likely have a similar-ish menu for pop-ups in June and July, with minor variations. That way, you’ll be able to get your last bites of Batik And Baker for two months!

On the bye bye bakes menu:
🍰 Vietnamese Coffee Cake: If you’ve had a slice, you know she’s a coffee lover’s must-have. Three layers of Califia Farms cold brew coffee cake, condensed milk buttercream with Equator Coffee coffee beans specks and espresso paint.
🍒 Black Forest Cake: Because it’s finally cherry season and who doesn’t love chocolate cake? This cake will feature cherries two ways, Luxardo cherries (so luxeeeeee) and fresh cherries (let’s see what Kashiwase Farms has at the Berkeley Tuesday market) that will get Kirsh bath, and chocolate cake layers with Valrhona cocoa, because it is truly, the best cocoa. 
🍪 Most commonly asked question about my sablés: How do you get them so perfectly round? Well, I cut every single piece by hand, that’s how. I usually offer these time-consuming, labor of love French shortbreads only at the end of each year, but many of you have asked for it, so 3 flavors will be available.
🌿 Jasmine Green Tea, with green tea
🍫 Chocolate Espresso, with 70% dark chocolate
☀️ Sunchoke Miso & Furikake, with sunchoke miso
🍓 Strawberry Lychee Gelée: It's summer so the layered jar dessert is back for June. This time, it's strawberry milk, lychee black tea and Rodriguez Farms strawberries, and a hit of lime.

/ may 2025 / 🍓 Strawberry season is finally here! 🍓 (insert happy wiggle dance) So excited to have strawberries back in my life. My favorite strawberries are from a family-owned farm in Watsonville, California along the Monterey Bay coast. These strawberries will be in my Jasmine Strawberry Cake, roasted strawberries tucked in between jasmine milk tea mousse and layers of a delicate jasmine green tea chiffon cake, with loose leaf green tea from

🖤 Black Sesame Choux: My earliest memory of having black sesame, or “haak zi maa” in cantonese, was in glutinous rice dumplings in a sweet ginger soup dessert. I love the deep nuttiness of roasted black sesame, and I'm using sesame from Wadaman, the legendary Japanese roaster that's been doing their thing for over 130 years!
🍪 Black & White Pepper Snaps: From the Batik And Baker archives, these crisp, savory-sweet crackers made their debut in my first-ever bake box in January 2021. This OG has gone through multiple iterations and looks very different from when it first premiered, but it’s my love letter to black and white pepper from Sarawak, which imho grows the best pepper.
🥜 Lastly, a classic that is often the first thing to sell out: Peanut Mochi. With that QQ bounce, these bebes are filled with oven-toasted peanuts, a hit of sugar and salt for that sweet and savory bite.

If you can't wait that long, I still have this cake available as a whole cake for Mother's Day weekend, for pickup either on Saturday or Sunday morning from Oakland. This is one of my favorite cakes because I adore strawberries from Rodriguez Farms, and if you ever need proof on how amazingly delicious & popular they are, just speak with anyone standing in the long ass line for their stall at the Montclair's Sunday Farmers' Market. 🍰 This cake is 3 layers of jasmine green tea chiffon cake, creamy jasmine milk tea mousse -- featuring loose leaf tea from Berkeley-based Asha Tea House -- and nestled with roasted strawberries between the layers.
