Our Story
In the late 1800’s, my great-grandfather, Luigi DelPrete, brought his Italian pastry recipe’s from Caserta, Italy to Brooklyn, New York. At the age of 9, my grandfather, Pasquale Agoglia, started working for my great-grandfather Luigi. He learned all the aspects of the business and worked side-by-side with Luigi’s daughter, Cristina (Christine). They fell in love, married, and opened their own bakery. Pasquale had a son Joseph (my father), who worked and learned the business from his father. In 1970, at the age of 26, Joseph wanted to open his own bakery, but not in Brooklyn, NY.... He searched New Jersey, Long Island and Connecticut. He decided on Norwalk, CT...People said he was crazy! At the time the Post Road had Caldor, Bradlees, Old McDonald Farm, and oh, Swanky Franks! But Joe (my father) had a vision that thelocation would be the best one day. He moved his wife, Mary Ann, and their one year old daughter Angela (me) to CT. What to name the bakery? Joe’s father’s Bakery was Premiata Pastry. He decided to name it after his daughter, Angela. Angela Mia means “My Angela” in Italian. And here we are 47 years later, and here I am, Angela, keeping traditions alive. So basically, it all started with my great-grandfather Luigi DelPrete. Other bakeries in the surrounding area were named after him. He was the start of it all.
I hope your experience with Angela Mia pastries and desserts brings family’s together at gatherings and parties. Family is important to us, and it is what has kept us going for generations. Most importantly, our customers are a special part of our family- without you all, we would not have survived this long. THANK YOU!
