I want to make a post, to introduce myself, but also talk a little about why I made this FB page and invited you here! π
Hello! For those of you who don't know me, my name is Ashley. I am 33 years old, I live in southern NH. I'm a mom to one beautiful little girl named Chloe, and a loving wife to my husband of 11 years! β€οΈ I have lived in NH for over 14 years, but I grew up on North River Lake, at my family's camp. I have had many jobs over the years. My first job was working at a gas station right here in Northwood! I have also worked in grocery stores, I did private home care for 5 years caring for a woman who had end stage dementia, and even worked a summer in a lobster shack on the coast of NH! Now I'm a stay at home mom, but also helping take care of a couple family members who need a little extra help! π₯°
How I got into sourdough:
It was 4 years ago, after my home care client passed away, I was feeling down and wanted to find a hobby to keep my mind busy, and also wanting it to be something that would be beneficial to my family. I do a lot of gardening in the spring/summer but at this time it was winter, so the hobby needed to be something I could do inside the house! I was on Tik tok, getting sucked into videos of people talking about making a sourdough starter to make bread. They were naming their starter all kinds of funny names, showing it off like it was a trophy, so, I thought, "I think that would be a lot of fun, AND help feed my family!" The best of both worlds! Within a week, I went and bought the exact flour everyone said to use, and jars to make it in. I joined a few Sourdough for beginners Facebook groups, and got started! It took a month!! A whole month, for my starter to grow and become mature enough to bake with! The first couple loaves were a fail, but then I finally figured it out! Practice makes perfect! I have been baking sourdough bread and other baked goods for almost 4 years now. My family and friends always tell me I should be selling my baked goods or open my own bakery, but I never took the steps to go that route. I always liked baking stuff and giving things to everyone just to make them happy. A few months ago, I was invited by a close friend of mine, Kelsey, to sell my sourdough bread in her bakery shed here in town. It will be another week or 2 before my soft opening, due to unforeseen circumstances, so I will post more details about that very soon!
At the bakery shed, I will be focusing on sourdough bread (mostly original but if you want a flavor you can request one to be made), sourdough cinnamon rolls (if all goes well I will be doing other flavors of cinnamon/sweet rolls, requests are always welcome!) and sourdough banana bread (I make it with or without nuts, I can add chocolate chips at your request, or make them into normal or bite size muffins). I will also have some dehydrated starter for sale in little packets, for anyone who is thinking about starting their sourdough journey, and wants an already established starter to use so you don't have to wait a WHOLE MONTH to start using it! β€οΈπ₯°
Thank you to everyone who joined so far, and welcome to all the new people! More details to come in the next week, so keep an eye out for new posts and pictures being posted so you won't miss out on my Grand SOFT Opening day! ππβ€οΈπ
