Bread By Carls

Bread By Carls We are Carleton College students dedicated to baking bread and bringing people together around a goo

Founded by Emily Pence and Spencer Dillon, Bread By Carls aims to provide wholesome and delicious alternatives to store-bought and dining-hall bread for students, faculty and the greater Northfield community. We bake bread every Sunday and take pre-orders for the weekend's sales up to midnight on Friday. Loaves are $5 apiece (pay upon receipt) and change weekly, though there is always a a traditio

nal, regular loaf, a sweet loaf and a savory loaf. If you like, you can order your loaf as miniature bread bowls (of approximately the same size) for the same price. We try to make all of our bread with our homemade sourdough starter, the majority of our bread is vegan and we try to use organic and sustainably harvested ingredients whenever possible.. If you have suggestions for future bread flavors or just any more general suggestions, feel free to let us know!

I hate to do this, especially having assured you all of continuing bread production this term, but I'm going to have to back out of baking for money this term. Over the summer, I realized that I wouldn't be able to juggle BBC with my other school commitments.
That isn't to say that I won't be baking bread this term. Far from it. I won't, however be selling bread every weekend. If you want to bake some bread, let me know and I'm sure we can find a time to make some bread together (without money changing hands or anything).

You read that right; we're saddled up at the bar of the last chance saloon for bread ordering for the next 3 MONTHS (sorry about the odd references, I'm reading a lot of Larry McMurtry right now...), though business will resume as usual in the fall.

Just a reminder as to what's on offer: regular (full-size or minis), Peanut butter raisin bread (full size or minis) and savory caprese bread with sundried tomatoes, fresh mozarella and basil (full size or minis)

Please let me know by saturday morning so I can have your loaf ready by sunday, midmorning.

It's been a blast thus far,

Spencer

Hey guys!
Here's a friendly reminder to order some bread this week, as you won't have another opportunity to do so until September (which is so far off as to be inconceivable).

These breads are also the requests of Ellis Johnston, incredibly consistent customer and animated and enthusiastic reviewer. Thanks for responding to all those annoying emails, Ellis.

Logistics at bottom. All loaves will be available as minis as well.

On offer this week:
Classic (honestly, I've run out of things to say):
(picture 1)

Sweet peanut butter raisin-flecked bread (you read that right, peanut butter and raisins in a sweet loaf): imagine dark gems studding the loaf in this picture, since the loaf is improvised
(picture 2)

Savory caprese bread (this is where the spring comes in, this bread is chocked full of mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes and basil in a loaf resembling foccacia, but more biscuit-y):
(picture 3)

Logistics: Please let me know (email dillons) by friday night/saturday morning what your order is (there is no volume limit). Loaves are $5 a piece and can alternatively be ordered as several mini-loaves (perfect for bread bowls). Pickup is mid morning to 5 on sunday and you pay upon receipt of the bread.

Finish the term strong!

Spencer

We find ourselves here, on the eve of summer, eagerly anticipating the summer fruits, vegetables and sunshine, but finals not so much.

Given those considerations, next week will be the last of selling bread for the term for me until the fall, but I'm going to try to make the bread a bit 'springy' as a result. These breads are also the requests of Ellis Johnston, incredibly consistent customer and animated and enthusiastic reviewer. Thanks for responding to all those annoying emails, Ellis.

Hello again!
Don't forget to order bread; I've got some really tasty stuff on offer this week!

With the term beginning to wrap up, this week, while not the last, is certainly pretty close to the last one of the term to order bread. As a tradeoff, I'm doing my darnedest to make the last few weeks' offerings interest-piquing and scrumptious. No weird experiments with odd stuff, just tasty bread. This week's selection comes from the inspiration of the Kowalewskis, though I think that I'm almost as excited about it as they are! Everything is available in loaves or minis this week as well.

Read to the end for logistics.

ON OFFER:
Classic sourdough (while I have produced the occasional franken-loaf, these are remarkably tasty, belying their humble ingredient list):

Carrot-Zucchini bread with candied ginger (it sounds more complex than it is; just revel in its subtly sweet flavor):

Cheddar Walnut Wholewheat sourdough (It's got the crunch and the gooey-ness, along with the incredible flavor of whole wheat. What could be better?):

Ordering logistics: Please let me know (email dillons) by friday night/saturday morning what your order is (there is no volume limit). Loaves are $5 a piece and can alternatively be ordered as several mini-loaves (perfect for bread bowls). Pickup is mid day to 5 on sunday in Watson basement and you pay upon receipt of the bread.

Hello gluten lovers!
Hopefully everyone is chugging along with the term and has exciting summer plans just around the corner.
As with last week, I'll be spending the weekend off campus, so I'll be baking bread on friday night and saturday morning for saturday pickup. With this in mind, please have you orders in by thursday afternoon so I have adequate time to acquire ingredients and prep my starter.

Ordering logistics:
Please let me know by friday night/saturday morning what your order is (there is no volume limit). Loaves are $5 a piece and can alternatively be ordered as several mini-loaves (perfect for bread bowls). Pickup is mid day to 5 on sunday in watson basement and you pay upon receipt of the bread.

On offer this week:
Classic sourdough, our constant companion:
(picture 1)

Kalamata rosemary sourdough: bread of the gods! (and a lot of Italians). Delicious savory flavor if you're a fan of olives. (picture 2)

Apple Honey Challah: a slightly sweet and delicious braided loaf (note this is not available in minis), (picture 3).

Have a great week and get those orders in!

Hi everyone,
Don't forget to order bread; your chance to own your very own loaf of chocolate banana bread is running out (not to mention your chance at finnish rye). It'll be mother's day and what better way to celebrate it than buying yourself (not your mom) a loaf of delicious bread?

Get those orders in by 10 am saturday!

Spencer
