This Saturday, May 13, marks the end to our time at Reverie Roasters at Mojos. However, this week we would like to use our platform to do some good as we pave the way for Bethel College to figure out how to better utilize the space the community has grown to love in the past.

As you may certainly already know, one of our teammates recently had the responsibility to bury her mother, who had been missing for over 2 1/2 years. In an effort to help recover the expenses for the funeral service, we have set up a Go Fund Me page in honor of Sasha Kosminski to help pay for these expenses. Any leftover funds will go to cover college funds for her daughter, Bethel College student, Kalie Kosminski.

https://gofund.me/ff0612dc

Reverie will be donating 20% of all Mojos sales this week to the fund. We will be collecting cash donations at the register. And if you donate directly to the Go Fund Me page, you will be automatically entered to win a $250 coffee basket filled with fresh roasted coffee, swag and gift cards you can use at any of our remaining three locations, including Reverie Roasters Express on 12th Street in Newton. A winner will be selected after we reach our campaign goal.

While we may have misjudged our business opportunity in North Newton, we are 100% certain that focusing on helping a member of our community is the right thing to do. We hope that you will see this as an opportunity to step up to help out a fellow community member.

Hours of operation are as usual until we close Saturday at 2PM. Please come by to say goodbye to our team. This week naturally marks the end of another school year, so many of your favorite baristas will be heading home for the summer.

So, don’t hesitate to come by. We’d love to see your smiling faces at least one more time before we close up this chapter of our journey.

Dear North Newton Community,

We will be briefly closed temporarily from
9 AM to 12 PM this Friday, April 28th, to allow our staff to attend funeral services for a close relative of one of our own teammates. We apologize for the inconvenience this may present you. But if one thing is true about our Harvey County fans and friends, is you will be understanding and supportive of this minor inconvenience. We look forward to serving you again when we resume normal operating hours the same day at 12 PM.

Dear Customers and Community,

Because the word has already been shared publicly ahead of our planned announcement, I suppose it makes sense to formally acknowledge to our friends and fans that Reverie Roasters at Mojos is set to be closed permanently by Saturday, May 13th. We appreciate the sincerity offered to our staff and team as we work through the difficult challenges of closing a business.

18 months ago, we were presented with an opportunity to purchase Mojos Coffee Bar in North Newton, KS. After 15 months in operation, we have decided to cut our losses and close this store. This enables Bethel College to reclaim the venue and reassess what the community needs and what it will support. We were admittedly naïve in thinking in today’s climate a premium coffee shop on a small college campus could be successful while competing with the cafeteria. Once inflation is factored in, we admittedly misjudged the opportunity.

Without a doubt, serving the North Newton community on Bethel College campus has been immensely rewarding. Most notably, the staff we continued employing after purchasing the business in 2021 are a gift. They are all friendly, funny, and truly talented at work and in their various pursuits. We employ artists, musicians, athletes, actors, and more. We value them equally—or more—as friends and employees. Currently, we are seeking ways to continue employing as much of the staff as possible both in Newton and Wichita.

It is toughest knowing we may have let our team down at Mojos. Perhaps we could have changed the menu or pushed additional social media posts to get the word out. Perhaps our commitment to offering living wages to all staff members affected our ability to be profitable, though it doesn’t seem to be an issue for any of our other locations. However, the fact remains that communities vote with their dollars; this reality is why we are withdrawing from this endeavor before causing further damage to our business.

Reverie Roasters Express at 220 E 12th St. in Newton continues to operate as normal. The first drive thru only location for Reverie opened in late March 2022 and continues to perform exceptionally. No changes are planned for this or any other Reverie location. Your continued support at Reverie Roasters Express is much appreciated. All gift cards and loyalty points can be redeemed at any of our locations in Newton and Wichita.

While this story is mostly not good for the customers and staff, I think it’s important to recognize that we were able to make this decision before causing irreparable damage to our business. The old version of me could have ridden this pony all the way into the ground, jeopardizing the livelihoods of over 44 employees and their families. But I’m proud we took the time to tell our staff directly and committed to working through this process together, even though we didn’t get to share this news directly with our customers and fans first.

We hope you find it in your hearts to understand the difficult decision we made. We will finish out the semester with the students and wish them well into the summer. Our roots are planted in the Newton community, so we’re not quite finished with the work we are doing. We look forward to seeing you at the campus café or at one of the many civic events our leadership team and employees attend or serve throughout the year.

See ya soon- Andrew Gough, Owner

Rollin’ from town to town, the Plant Bus is makin’ its rounds! I’m pulling out with a plant-packed bus starting on Wednesday this week. Read through my caption to see more pop-up details and give me a shout if you have questions. Happy planting everyone!

STOP ONE: I will be out at Isely Elementary on STEM Night for some plant fun! Stop in from 5:30-7:30 pm.
STOP TWO: is starting up Third Thursdays in Madison Avenue Central Park. I will be parked with the bus for their Spring into Art event! Come to find local artistry and good eats (and of course, plants)!
STOP THREE: I’m back at my pals over in North Newton. Find the Plant Bus from 10-2 to grab your garden starts and a houseplant or two!
STOP FOUR: Renata’s Garden is participating in the first annual Lawn & Garden Show at the Butler County Fairgrounds. The event runs from 9-5 on Saturday and 12-5 on Sunday. Because of my brother’s impending nuptials, I will have a booth set-up inside on Saturday, and the bus will pop-up outside on Sunday.
