When it comes to charcuterie boards, French don’t play games😊. Here is how to make a charcuterie board the french way.
Serve at least 4 different kind of cheeses, soft and creamy (Brie or Camembert), hard (Comté or Cheddar), and something strong (blue cheese). Include some bresaola, prosciutto or some cured beef, and cured sausage.
Then, include all the extras to fill in the empty spaces: spring veggies like radishes and cherry tomatoes, berries, preserved and pickled ingredients, such as olives and cornichons, and even some tapenade. Plus, a handful of dried figs or apricots provide a sweet and tangy contrast to the richness on the board. Some honey or cherry preserves are also essential.
Serve everything with bread -not crackers-, a baguette is the best option. Sourdough or walnut bread are also recommended and you can mix them up. Be sure to preslice the bread before serving your guests.
Prepare the board ahead of time and let it rest 30 minutes to an hour, to allow it to come to temperature. The flavors will be much stronger.
Last tip: a wood board is the best way to go to keep it authentically French 🇫🇷
Enjoy!
